My friend is selling me his 96 se probe but the cd player only works for a few seconds and turns off. it's a sony explode head unit and is fairly new, what could be causing this?

bad connection in the wires. take it out and look at the wires and make sure they are connected good.

is the cd player from wal-mart?

its either your wires or your batteries dead.
