I have a 1987 Ford Taurus Station Wagon with a manual 5 speed tran. Here is the problem that I have recently started having.
Start car, idles fine, the problem occurs when you go to accelerate. Usually after the car has warmed up. When you are cruising along all of a sudden it is like you either have lost spark, or there is too much or too little gas. I have checked compression and that all checks out so it either has to be gas or spark just can not seem to narrow it down. I have had a new fuel pump installed in an effort to narrow it down. Anway back on task here. Like I said you can be sitting idle or you can be crusing along the highway then all of a sudden the car will start jumping and bouncing and carrying on when you go to accelorate or while you are running at speed never happens while you are idleing. What I end up having to do is to pull off the side of the road, turn the engine off, wait like a minute or two then restart and the car runs fine again for a while. If I just pull off to the side of the road it will drop to idle and idle just fine but will not accelorate unless you turn the motor off and wait then restart. I have a new fuel pump in it, the plugs, wires and all that are less than a year old so I do not know what else to try. Any help appreciated. Thank you.
