Well, the opportunity to see this car didn't end up materializing for me (or Malka) unfortunately. :(

The final word was that it was sold to New York, which immediately had me thinking that it could have landed in Ralph Lauren's collection. It would look nice alongside all of his red Ferraris afterall. However, it now sounds like it has joined the collection of our other F1 owner from New York - Gary Schaevitz - joining #014 and #045.

It would be great to see some photos of that trio together... hint, hint

I don't know what you mean by criticism? Where have I criticized the purchase? I was just wondering why, as in whether he needs them for three different homes, for a collection, because he's trying to corner the market, likes the colours, needs them to do the mileage he wants to do in a year under Show and Display restrictions, etc., etc. Do you know?

It wasn't intended to be, and it certainly isn't, criticism. Who could begrudge such fine taste?

Edit: I can see how asking "What are you thinking?" is a critical, sarcastic question implying that the person wasn't thinking...but I didn't mean it in that way. I was literally asking what his reasoning behind the purchase of 3 roadcars was. No underlying sarcasm.

Pure marketing? Bad site management? Who knows.

If you are indeed the buyer of 028, than I guess you can ask them to remove it, if it's bothering you.

So.....can you confirm that 028 has indeed joined 014 & 045?

I can confirm it was still there as of yesterday. I have the pleasure of being able to drive by the dealer on the way to school. As a matter of fact they actually moved it closer to the front window (as opposed to slightly hidden behind the Astons).

As for their website, from all the time's I've checked it and then actually gone to the dealer, it's kept up almost daily (or at least everytime they need to make an adjustment to their inventory status).

Well, as long as the cars not being transported to its new owner....but if it's been sold, yeah, it's not cool to keep it listed as 'for sale'. That's why I prefer the setup 'stocklist' -> 'cars sold'. Also makes for better chance to find F1 pics :-)

One more benefit to #028:

"This incredible McLaren F1 is USA certified in 50 states."

Whereas on the listing for #014 it states:

"EPA and DOT certified in 49 states."

I wonder why, and I wonder what the differences could be that makes it so.

Shame that gerd doesn't post here any longer. This is the type of question he'd probably have a good answer for.

The yellow one ...

Warranty No warranty

Errrr ... great! Even if I was in the Big Mac league I'd want some form of assurance!Unless SVAG is an authorized McLaren service center I don't see why they'd offer any sort of warranty. You're talking about a million dollar car which has seen at least one owner. Since F1s are out of production the vehicle cannot be replaced (and can only be properly maintained by a small group of qualified individuals) why would some non-McLaren affiliated dealer offer a warranty?

The first thing I'd do when I got the car is take it back to a McLaren service center for a thorough inspection =)

What do you need a warranty for? Don't you guys swear by engineering on the F1? I'm fairly sure we'd know if one of the McLarens was a lemon. :p

You have to remember, if you have the money to afford a McLaren, you can afford to take it to McLaren or some other extremely acclaimed mechanic to do your work. Its not like someone who owns an F1 is taking their McLaren over to Jiffy Lube for a fluids change.

You'd call McLaren to ask to fly in a tech and they'd prolly just say "#14? Why do you need someone? It was just serviced on :some date: and its running perfect."

Peloton25
11-10-2005, 01:19 PM
Well I wouldn't expect a warranty on any car that is 11 years old - million dollar price tag, or not - 2500 miles on the odometer, or not.

As I recall the original McLaren warranty was for three years from the date of production, and in that three years they would also provide, for free, any updates they had engineered into the later production cars.

anyone know why 028 is still listed for sale on their website?

I read this post as a subtle way of saying that you didn't buy it. My apologies for implicating you, but a credible source had reported that you had purchased a third F1, and the timing was rather coincidental.

In any event, I learned this weekend that #028 has stayed in California, but came to SoCal - specifically "Newport Beach". Further details hopefully forthcoming.

Interestingly, the car still wears an identification badge from when it was in the collection of the Brunei Royal Family:

Mr. S, i was just wondering if there was any reason that you decided to sell the car through SVAG instead of somewhere local or privatley?

I'd also like to thank you for taking the time to post here. We've had numerous owners on here but not many seem to have stayed. It seems that you've been lurking for a while, so hopefully you'll continue to look here and post for us. Its really cool when an owner comes on here and talks to us. Its great to see the cars (always great, no matter how many you've seen. I've seen 11) but is cool to know that you've spoken to someone who actually owns the legend.

I think i speak for everyone when i say, thanks.

Possibly they're just trying to milk some publicity out of the car, which I can't say I blame them for, but then again if it's truly sold that doesn't sound like a good business plan to sell it again.

Because more people look at "Ferrari" than "Other Makes" and you can bet more people can afford a McLaren who look at the Ferrari category than the Other Makes category. Pretty smart imo. They used to list a Saleen S7 in with the Ferrari's too.
