Is it possible for a 5 speed 2001 mustang factory only,no alterations, to be at complete stop, make a right turn, go 0 to 66 mph and get to a complete stop, without fishtailing, in 3/10 mile. At 2.5/10 mile police made u turn, my son pulled over to get out of his way. I don't believe this car could have went 66 to 0 in .5/10 of a mile. He hit brake to pull over as he saw police make u turn. Wouldn't he have been much farther down to road when he got to complete stop. I took my old cadillac 0 to 50 speed limit and hit brakes where my son did, and I could not come to complete stop until I was much farther down the road. I have tried this 10 times now. Please help me solve this, I'm sure many of you guys here know more about this than me. Thanks Linda

To go from 0-66mph to a complete stop in about a 1/4 mile would not be easy. He would have had to be going straight from a dead stop, not taking a right hand turn. Also to accelerate to 66mph from a dead stop in that distance he would would have had to launch the car off the line, power shift each gear at redline, and then slam on the brakes. Needless to say if he went 0-66-0 in 1/4-1/3 of a mile then there would be skid marks from where he took off as well as where he stopped. The car is question is heavy compared to earlier mustangs, therefore it takes more power to get them rolling. The 99-04 GT's where a bit better performance wise than the previous 96-98 4.6L cars but not enough to be able to pull off a trick like that. Lets just say I'll beleive it when I see it. I'm guessing your son got a speeding ticket. Well if it is his first ticket then he can talk to an assistant DA and more than likely have his speed reduced to 9mph over the suggested limit. This will still go on his record and hie will still have to pay a fine. But it will not go on his insurance. Also the officer who pulled him would need to provide proof of his speed. If he was following him then he would have probably rearended your son with all the tricky driving he claimed to be going on. I'm not saying the officer was wrong, but his radar gun may need to be calibrated. If it goes to court I would ask for documented proof of the latest calibration for the radar gun. Good luck and let us know if we can help you with anything further. If nothing else let us know how it turns out.

actually depending on what state u live in, laws are different, for me in texas once a year i am allowed to take a defensive driving course to get rid of 1 ticket and i wont go on record and i dont have to pay anything. but if thats not an option go to court, i would think that in his case, it sounds real easy to win the case. if you or him dont feel confortable, or havent had experience, u can always pay 50 to 80 dollars to a lawyer and he will easilly take care of it. good luck

Young males from the teenage years and probably up into the mid-late 20's are picked on by cops more than anyone else. A teenage boy in a '01 GT is an absolute cop magnet. I got 1 ticket dropped back in high school by getting my school resource officer to write a letter to the assistant DA stating that he had never seen me acting in an unlawful manner and he watched me drive 5 days a week.
He was a cool cop though...congradulated me on a nice burnout once lol.

I could do it. 0-70-0 in a quarter wouldn't be that big of a challenge for an '01 GT. Most will do 70 mph in 1/8 mile, and stopping takes less length than getting going. If you threshold brake, it should take between 150 and 175 feet to go 70-0, so an average driver should be able to do it in 200 feet. That leaves over 1000 feet for the acceleration portion...
