rebuild 2.7

i posted a while back about my engine starting to knock......i left the car parked for a while so i could get some money together for a new engine, alas i cant get that much money so a friend of mine wants to rebuild it, good or bad idea?

Check the internet for the 3.2l or 3.5l conversion kit for the Intrepid and put a used 3.xl in it. 2.7's are junk.
