hello guys

do an engine swap? or not? what do you guys think? as you can see i want an engine swap, but i am way low in with the green $$$!!! so in the mean time how many of you guys still run your stock SOHC engines? do you guys think your SOHC can keep up with cars with an DOHC engine? please post your ideas and stories here.....

thanks

wait til you have at least 2grand and go with a b16a. til then just stick with the sohc. just dont buy anything for it. save every penny for that engine.

thats the best advice u could give anyone thats on a budget. save your money for better things. if i had ~2g's to spend, i would get a B20Z engine and maybe find some parts for a custom turbo setup. now that would be a killer torque monster (in honda's book:p )

i think i should have done that. i had $3000 and went with the b16a + turbo, built a 400hp monster.. but i still wonder what would have happened with a b20... i would have a lot of torque. i mean, i do have a lot of torque, but not as much as i would.

hmm, i wonder...

and ric, i gotta say, i liked 'i like naked girls'. no matter how many times i read it i still laugh.

i am trying to save up for a B18c, or should i just get an B16a??? i want an engine thats fast, and a engine that has the most bang for my buck. also am i going to have problems if i do a swap, because right now i have a aem cai & a dc 4-2-1 header w/ a Greddy evo

It takes money to go fast, whether SOHC or DOHC. If you don't have any money, then tough shit.

You can buy lots of parts for a SOHC, and be almost as fast as a stock DOHC. Or you can get a DOHC, be fast, and have a better platform to build upon.

I sound like a moron but keeping it simple so everybody understands. I can go into more technical detail if need be.

i was gonna get an ls motor in my hatch and turbo charge it cuz it has a lower compression than the b16 and it has more torque so i could run higher boost. and the ls motor should be much cheaper.

well, if you really want more power for the money then b16a is probably the way to go. 160hp 111lbs is a pretty good deal for just over a thousand. figure you get like 15more hp and 15lbs torque more with the b18c, but for like another 2g's. i just dont find it worth it. you can get the b16 then use that money to build it up. build the motor nice before you drop it too. its much easier to work on it when you can drive the car to the store when you find out you forgot something.

start it off with a new bottom end. get some new pistons, i went JE but you could just go small and get some ctr pistons & rings for like $300. that will give you a nice start. crower rods, maybe a new crank (i would go ctr on a budget..in fact, i did). then go for the headwork. spend a good 2500 before you put it in, you will notice a slight difference.

you wont be able to use that header, maybe the CAI, but it might be tight. the evo shouldbe fine, that fits from the cat..should be the same place, might need a little fitting but shouldnt be hard.

but they are both fast!

longblock B20Z engines can be had for $800. hook it up to an LS tranny with turbo and let it rip!!!

1st gen b16as are pretty cheap around here (1200 full swap) but i chose
the ls and im happy. i've never lost to a b16a on the street and hung with almost all of them at the track 1/4 mile time wise.
what ever you can find cheaper i guess

My personal thoughts on this subject, go turbo or nothing less than a GSR swap. A properly turbo charged d16 can out run a stock GSR, and easily out run an Si. I just dont think the Si engine is enough of an upgrade (33hp) over the EX, to warrant spending that much, might as well save up a bit more and get the GSR or a nice turbo set up. Of course, this is just my personal feelings on the subject.

i have a SOHC with the bolt-ons and a few extras...

i kept up with a 96 prelude that had intake and exhaust. i lost by a nose. if i had a DOHC too... i'd definitly beat it.

i'm saving for a gsr b18c1 as we speak.
