ok i know many of you have read my posts on sl to vr4 conversion but this is a poll on the 93 vr4.
is it really any different from the 94 6 speed vr4 other than better gas miliage. i mean i know the motor from 93 was the beging of the 320 horse vr4s. so i guess what i'm asking is who votes 5speed
and who votes six speed
(it's a 93 sl i'm thinking of convering)

cant say ive ever driven a 6...so naturally...i want one.

oh, and the difference in HP of the first gen vr4s can be changed in 5 minutes to 320. Check the stickys and look for FREE BOOST mod...

I like the body styling of the 94 over the 93. I've also never driven a five speed so I can't offer much of a comparison.

I heard you shift more, as the gear ratios are made for racing and quicker acceleration... though I have no first-hand experience... I don't think I've ever ridden in a car with 6 gears...

the 6-speed has shorter gears for better acceleration, given equal engine conditions, when compared to the 5-speed:

personally, i like the pop-up headlights on the 93 vr4s over the 2nd gen headlights. illumination is a problem on the 1st gens, though...but nothing HIDs can't solve ;)

6spd 3k rpms puts you at 100mph on the dot...my favorite highway cruising speed.

Generally I'd take hte 6spd over the 5 for everyday driving, although the 5spd has it's benefits for drag racing. Once you start modding a 6spd, you have to shift to 4th at the end of the 1/4, or let off. Hence the advantage of the 5spd's longer gears. (MR gear swap helps with this as well)

MR gear swap helps with this...

MR gear swap + 5spd rear differential

how hard is it to get a taller 5th gear for a 5-speed? say a .589 like in the 6? how hard is it to install? (besides the obvious chore of pulling out the tranny)

say a .589 like in the 6?

huh? :screwy:

how hard is it to get a taller 5th gear for a 5-speed?

www.teamrip.com sells the taller 5th gears for the fwd 5spds.

as for the AWD models, i know they no longer service AWD VR4 trannys b/c its soo hard to find the synchros and keep them in stock. but if you provide your own, i'm sure they could oblige their services. look here to see about their taller 5th gear: http://www.teamrip.com/awd.html . there is on 1/2 way down the page, 10% taller for $200...but i'm not sure if its for a VR4 tranny. you'll have to check with them on which trannies it fits. the FWD 3/S tranny is the same as many of the DSM tranny's (F5M33)...so with that availiability, there's always plenty of parts.
