I have a 1996 Pathfinder that had a bad fuel injector. Does anyone know how to reset the check engine light. I was told that only the Nissan dealer could reset it.

You can clear most error codes by unhooking the battery for a while. Supposedly overnight will do it.

If that doesnt work, let me know. I'll find an answer for you.:alien2:

Just unhook your battery and press your brake paedal for a couple of seconds. This will disscharge and charge left over in the system. If your computer doesn't back up your codes, this will work. If your computer backs up your codes you will have to bring it to the stealer.

You can also use the diagnostic mode selector screw on the computer to flash your codes on the dash as well as clear them. This was standard in the Pathfinders up until the 2001 year.

dealer is really very wrong. i suggest you to take battery (negivate) off, 30 to 45 sec, back negivitate onto the battery. it would be clear. your check light will be gone.

you can also go to autozone and rent there computor (actually its free you just pay a deposit and you get it back) and you can clear the codes that way

if the ECU has a diagnostic screw on the side you can reset it yourself. you may have to pierce the plastic sticker. get in the truck and turn key to ON so the ck engine lite comes on. your gonna need a VERY small screwdriver flathead. turnclockwise all the way, wait 2 seconds turn counterclockwise....read howmany times the ck engine light flashes. it will flash slow then fast....then it will either flash the code again or move onto the next code. it will repeat the cycle. for example if it blinks slow 3 times then fast 5 times the code is 0305. use google to determine what it means. now that you have the code turn the screw clockwise all the way wait 2 seconds then counterclockwise all the way and you check engine light is reset.

Keep in mind that if you do this method, the example of 0305 does not equal P0305. There is a cross reference from the MIL code that will flash to the actual error code that you'll be able to search the internet for. The Haynes manual has this cross reference listed.
