Looking for a 1968 steering column for floor shift car

I have a very clean frame off 1968 chevelle that needs one last item.
I have a B&M floor shifter on the car now, and have changed the car
from the old column shift, but it still has that small shift button on the
right side of the column. Does anyone know of a company that sells
new or good used columns? (I don't want to pay a mint if possible, I have enough in the car now)

I'd cut/ grind the little knob the shift lever swivels in off the steering column,then weld a small piece of metal over the little hole. A little filler and paint and away you go. Thats what I did on mine, and it worked pretty slick. You would never know it. Did you go with the B&M Pro shifter! I love the one I put in my 66'.

Did you pull the steering column out of the car when you did this? How hard is it to pull the steering column on a 1968 Chevelle?

Its been a while since I did that. Mine was a total frame off restoration so I had the column out when I did the minor mig welding on it. I would take it out if I were you to prevent hot spark on your important interior parts, plus easier to paint. I took the steering wheel off, disconnected the drive shaft at the gear box and pull out the shaft, then steering column mount bolts under the dash. The wire loom should un-couple too. I believe that is about it. you will need to take the top inside plastic piece out enough so you can get in there with a small piece of metal, spot weld it in there from the outside. A little filler and light sanding, touch of primer and a good coat of paint. Done in a day or 2 with very little cost. When I did mine it was a first for me. I contiplated doing it for a while but once I did it I was amazed at how simple it was to customize it like that. You will do fine!

Thank you for the information, the car is in storage for the winter months
but if we have a few nice days this winter I might pull the steering column and do that. This would make a good winter project! Thanks again!
