change the battery, if that doesn't fix it, rebuild the alternator, if that doesn't fix it, as long as the car doesn't have a carb, pull the dash out and remove that annoying light

Ummm... No.

Check the tension on your belt. It will cause it to do that. Mine actually squeels a bit when you first turn the car over. But I would try checking the tension before doing anything else...

the tension seems to be preety tight, but will that cause my alternator to give my battery less power. i was driving down my block at night with my lights on an they just kept getin dimmer and dimmer til my engine started sputtering. i parked it at my house and now im sure the battery is 70 percent dead. im about to try a new battery. if that doesnt work, were can i find a 87 crx si alternator, cheap(i saw 1 on ebay 4 $45.00)

I'm betting it's the alternator, not the battery (although it could be a combination of both).

Most autoparts stores will test both the alternator and battery for free, but you've got to pull the alternator first.

To me it sounds like the alternator because it looses power as you drive, and the motor pretty much just runs off the alternator when it's running. The battery is just to get the motor started, so if you've got a bad alternator you will be running off battery power until it's drained. The alternator may still be sending some ammount of power to the battery, but it won't be enough to keep up with the demand of the ignition system.

You actually don't have to remove the alternator for them to test it. AutoZone will check it while it's still in the car. But it is defenitely an alternator issue.
