Ok, I'm new to this forum (obviously). Also, I'm new the world of Grand Prix's. I've been in love with them forever, however, never had the chance to own one until two weeks ago.

My "new" Grand Prix is a 1998 Grand Prix GTP. Has 105,000 miles. No mods that I know of (everything looks stock) and I've looked it over pretty good.

I'm not sure if my questions have been answered in full or in part in previous forums, I couldn't find anything when I searched, but I may have searched different keywords, so if any of my questions are duplicates, please redirect me to the correct thread :) THX!!

1.) Is there a way to, when I unlock my car via the keyless entry, to flash the lights to signify my car has actually received the signal. I've noticed sometimes it works at a pretty good distance, and other times I need to be standing next to the car (already replaced the battery in the remote)

2.) Along the same lines as Q1, when I lock my car via keyless, have the horn honk, as in some newer cars.

3.) I know you can turn the light switch inbetween the parking and headlights to turn on just the parking lights and fog lights, but is it possible to wire it for the fog lamps and parking lights be my "daytime running lights".

4.) I know the SuperCharger contains oil, how do I go about changing this oil. I've heard its separate from the engine oil. And, what viscosity oil should I use?

Thanks in advance,

Anthony

Whoops, another question I remembered as I just walked out to my car :(

5.) The clearcoat on my wheels (polished alum.) is starting to bubble/pit. Is there anything I can do to fix/slow this?

Welcome to the forum.

The oil in the supercharger is special oil. Here's the procedure to change the oil.

hey there,

i have a 98 SE and the lights flash when i unlock it and the horn honks when i lock it. i thought that was a standard setting for the stock alarm system. maybe in the owners manual there is a way to disable/enable these features.

as for the wheels, i have the same problem. I live in canada, pretty harsh winters, so they dump PILES of salt on the road. If you get a small chip on the wheels, it removes the protective varnish coating. The salt then starts reacting with the alloy and corrodes it. The best way ive found to stop it, it to sand the corroded area with some very fine sandpaper or sanding block (i use one of these since its easier to sand a very small area). You can then buy a small tube of touchup wheel varnish, made specially for mags. Just touch up where you have sanded, and the wheel regains its shine. Up close you can tell its been worked on, but from a distance it looks like new.

OK, how bout this... I think I have found the only feature not installed as standard on the GTP models :( The option of lock/unlock confirmation is part of the theft deterrant package or something like that. This is somewhat disappointing. Guess I'll have to get used to checking my doors not knowing if they'll be unlocked or not when I walk up to my car :( Damn Pontiac!!!

#3... pull the drl fuse and turn the fogs and parking on by hand....thats the easiest way. and on the 98's you wont have to worry about any dinging or messing w/ unpluging anything else

there are different programming modes for the keyless entry/theft deterrent system. The owners manual has the programming instructions to change from different modes. Example: My 99 is set as default to unlock the drivers door on the first push of the unlock button, and the rest of the doors on a second push within 5 seconds. When I lock the doors, the first push locks the doors and sets the theft deterrent, the second push flashes the lights and honks the horn. There is a red led on the dash that shows you the alarm is set. You can change the setup so that it unlocks all the doors with one push if you wish, etc...., you just need to follow the proceedure to get the car in programming mode and then follow the instructions in the owners manual to switch to different modes.

Yup! I understand. If you look in the owners manual for my car it shows there are three levels of programming. Then each option within the programming has different modes. Once you enter the programming mode there is a series of chimes (two, three or four) depending on the options that are installed on your car, three is what chimes for my car, I need four to get the theft deterrent and the notification of lock/unlock on the keyless. If anyone knows how to change which options are installed that would be helpful!

The device that controls all remote keyless operations is the body control module (BCM) and it works in conjunction with a RCDLR receiver.

At the time of manufacture or even at the dealer level the BCM could be programmed for certain options. If you don't have them, the BCM may have been programmed for those things not to work...for example horn honking once at lock or headlight flashing, etc.

The '99 - '02 BCMs have better options in keyless entry operation. But I am not sure if it will work in a '97 - '98. Proper BCM programming must be done by a GM dealer with a Tech II machine and other programming equipment.
