I have had my first Porsche 944 since May. This is a 95.5 (Late Model) and the previous owner obviously did not take very good care of this car. I have been slowly replacing parts that are worn or needs upgraded since I owned it (Thinking I can make the car great again). I drive this car everyday also. Gets about 20-30 miles every day. I was comming home yesterday and everything was good. Then I went to slow down and shtarting down shifting. Nothing seemed odd except that when I got to second it would not go. Like the shifter was not going far enough to hit the gear. First was missing also. I shifted back to third and limped it home (burning a bit of clutch trying to do this). I crawled under the car and the linkage appears ok but it almost seems like it is something in the trans that is stopping it from going all the way in. It goes out just fine but not in. I was also thinking it may be the pins at forst since I have had play in the shifter since I got the car but even under the car at the trans I am unable to push it into 1st or 2nd. Any ideas except a new trans? Could it still be the linkage and it is not allowing the shaft to twist far enough to allow it into first and second? I need help with this. Thank you

You may want to investigate the linkage on the trans. There is a snap ring that occasionally fails-allowing the shifter to be extra sloppy and loose a gear or two. But transmission failure is also common. They can be rebuilt but are expensive. Used ones are the more cost efficient way if thats the case. If it turns out that you need one I can turn you onto a yard that specializes in Porsche stuff. Good luck.

I would be interested in the junkyard anyways. I am restoring this car this winter and will be needing various parts. The previous owner did not know how to take care of anything. Lots of little things wrong with it. I also need a front fender. The car is going into the shop today so I will know what the problem is and if linkage it will be fixed. If trans it is being parked until I can tear it apart. Thanks

I thought I would reply after I found out what is wrong with my trans incase someone else has issue. One of the forks in the transmission is screwed up. They did not tear it apart but the problem is in the trans. They suspect the fork due to the rest of the gears work. Its like first and second is stuck in neutral. I am tearing the trans apart this winter but it looks like I will need to replace the whole trans. There may be a pin out of place on the fork but even if that is so it tends to scar the inside where it rubs. JUst so someone else who runs into this that its possibly not an easy and cheap fix :-(

Contact Dale: [email protected] he has really cheap 944 parts and I know he has at least 2 transmissions in stock. He must have 20 parts cars at his shop as well as a full line of racing products. Good luck!
