89 300 E Problem...heater control buttons and blower buttons don't work, hi-heat blasts out defroster vents. On occasion (very rarely) all the sudden the blower come on, all the controls seem to work. At this point if push off button...it turns off, and the heat stops also. On restarting the car...no controls again!

The brushes on your your blower motor are worn out. Contact mercedessource.com in Washington state to get new brushes.
Here's the deal: the brushes make the electrical contact so that your blower actual blows. When they get severely worn, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.
If the blower isn't working, try leaving your key on and slamming the door. If your blower suddenly starts working, you need brushes.
The brushes themselves probably only cost fifty cents. The kit you'll get from mercedessource.com will cost about $42. You get the brushes, some aluminum shields to help you solder them on, and a very well-illustrated booklet that shows you step by step how to get down to your blower motor.
Since you have to take off the wiper arm (those instructions are included in the booklet) it's a good time to grease those gears in the wiper arm, too, before that whole shitorea eats itself.
Tell Kaia you want the W124 blower repair kit at 1-800-513-5797.
That's who I got mine from!

Just replaced my heater blower motor w/ a new one. Found the best price is at importec.com for about $150 and shipping was free.

I actually tried to install a used motor, it ran fine until it stopped at a certain point, then would only run if you moved the squirrel cage a little bit. Pulled it back out and put the new one in, working great.

The first attempt took about 2 1/2 hours start to finish. Second attempt, when I knew what I was doing took about 1 1/2 hours, and that included getting the new motor properly set in the housing.

Not a bad job, if you are comfortable pulling off the trim pieces. Need to be careful with the plastic "L" clips, they will break easily. Good luck!

Just got your reply...Thanks. (been away on a job)
This would explain the blower not working, however the heat blasts out the defroster vents... and the heater control buttons/thermostat wheel
have no affect. Do you think this is also a controls problem?

SInce this link is about heaters anyone have an idea why my 1988 300E only blows cool air with the temp adjust on full heat? The A/C blows ice cold though...The fan works wonderfully just no heat...

Have a E320 1995 straight 6 w210 saloon. The heater blower only runs on very slow speed no matter what temperature is set except when turned to high or low it turns off altogether. Any ideas. if it is the regulator where do I find it?

your 96, that is the w210, right? the control is extremely complicated if it is anything like my 1998. give it ample time to "switch" over to the current setting, and make sure you have a thourough understand of the buttons. you almost need a Master's Degree in how to opperate that a/c controller.
