Here's what I have so far. It's painted with Tamiya clear red over pearl white (wasn't satisfied with the white). SMS carbon decal on the hood. There is also a link in my sig that shows what all I've done with this never ending build up.

Next on the "to do" list is clear coating. From what I've read Tamiya TS-13 doesn't agree too well with decals. So I had to test it first to see for myself.

This pic is of the decal after using wet coats as if I would do the painted body. As you can see the decal didn't fair too well.

This pic shows how much better it turned out when I used a few mist coats. Now that I know this I can proceed with the body.

I think the wheels are original, although it might bee too much red with the red CF too. Reminds me of the color matched Porsche wheels. I like it!

I vote for the red rims.I think they look good for the car. Great job on this one weave. This is one of the better attempts at the 350z widebody............*Ryan*

I stole them from an Aoshima Veilside Combat Skyline GT-R kit. The wheels are Andrew Racing Dish. They are 2 piece wheels. The center and the lip are seperate. Click on the link in my sig and you'll see how they go together.

very nice. I've got to say I like the red rims better.

Also nice to see someone demonstrating a "test it first" philosophy! wish I had more of that :)

Roll on!

Finally added clear coat. For some reason the clear has this cracked look to it on the sides of the car. I waited about a month for the red paint to dry so I'm at a loss for what could have caused this. The weather was perfect when I cleared it and I used my usual procedure for clear coating. Maybe it'll polish out.

did you use enamel, or laquer over acrylic? if so this is a BIG NO NO!! it doesn't matter how long you let the undercoat dry, if you spray solvent based over water based it will ALWAYS have screwed up results....unless you are TRYING for the crackled effect? haha. that sure looks good though, I love that bright red on the 350Z, that's the color I'm going for on the 1:1 if and when I get one.

I used Tamiya TS-13 clear over Tamiya TS-74 clear red. Are those 2 compatible?

Those are the famous hairline cracks the Tamiya clear sometimes surprises you with. You didn't do anything wrong at all, it just happens sometimes.

I'd give it a couple weeks to gas out then wet sand it and put another wet coat of clear on it, then polish.

Thanks. This stinks. I was hoping to take it to the show coming up in a couple of weeks. Oh well, at least I got the Scooby finished!

HUH? I use Tamiya acrylic over enamel and lacquer all the time with no problems. Are you sure you're correct in giving the above advise?

The cans are lacquer and the little glass tamiya paints are acrylic I beleive. Did you spray the can over the acrylic? Thats all I can see that happpened here with the cracking in the clear.

Nope. All the paint applied to the body was from a spray can. I have heard that this happens time to time. This was the 1st time I've used Tamiya's Clear red(TS-74) followed by Tamiya's Clear coat(TS-13). I have used the clear coat a couple of times but never used the clear red until this build. Maybe there is something different about the clear red. The only time you can really see it is when it's held in reflecting light at a certain angle. So I'll probably leave it alone and finish it up.

Besides the cracking, the body looks beautiful! That cracking does happen now and then. Just do what Veyron said, and everything will be back to normal.

Great job so far!

great build thus far, the interior is awesome. not sure if this has been explained or not, but why is there a bid hole in the rear trunk lid???

well when i did the body work i managed to cover to fuel door. so i decided to relocate it to the deck lid. now i can't figure out what to do with it. i was thinking of using the gas cap from a motorcycle kit but i'm not sure about it. i had also thought of making a fuel door that is flush with the body and adding the red carbon fiber. what do you guys think?

Well I took the filler cap and trimmed it so that it would fit flush with the body. It doesn't look so big now. I'm not sure about the finish on it though. I like the silver.

Well I'm finally done. The wheels were changed to Racing Harts. Hopefully with this built it will free up some building space. Sorry for the HUGE pics.
