Okay, got tired of gas prices :banghead: so I purchased this 89 Escort LX 5-speed. . Well, I need to change this clutch before winter hits as I'm working from a carport. I am failrly new to clutches (always had automatics) and VERY new to front-wheel drive drivetrains (call me old fashion). Anyway, I've got the abilities and the tools, etc.... to renew this clutch but a couple of questions...
1) Haynes manual says pull engine/trans as an assembly. Can't I pull JUST the tranny? or is there a reason why I can't?

2)I think I read somewhere about resurfacing the flywheel if the clutch is renewed? Who does this? Or is new flywheel cheap enough normally?
( to and from work car only but want it to last)

3)Are there any "hidden" parts I'll need going back together? (fasteners, boots, new nuts/bolts)

4)Clutch kit comes w/ disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, alignment tool $89. Anything to BEWARE on these (AUTO ZONE)

Sorry for long post. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, Doug

well you should always get a new flywheel, when doing a new clutch, resurfacing can mess up spacing, you CAN get away w/ a resurface, but in the long run a new FW is better.

I have never done a clutch on a Scort that old so im not sure how the replacment works.

You have a AUTO 6.6L Trans? be ashamed, be very. ashamed
