Electrical Problem......help!!

To any who can lend a help with the diagnosis...I have a 1997 Tahoe. Recently the electric door locks stopped working. So naturally I checked the fuse, and sure enough it was blown. After replacing it, everything seemed alright, door locks worked fine, then....it blew again. I tried to replace it one more time, and it blew again. I am sure it is something minor, but when it comes to wiring and electrical stuff, there is so much in these newer vehicles, I never know where to begin.

Here are some particulars that may help someone lead me in the right direction: There was an electronic brake hook up that used to be on the truck, it was removed from the previous owner's son, so he could have done a hack job and just cut wires, possibly leaving an exposed hot or ground somewhere. Other than that, there is a .mp3 hard drive that hooks into the radio that is powered via the aux fuse panel under the hood. There is a "add a circuit" that is tapped off of one of the ign fuses that acts as a constant for the .mp3 players memory (i assume), and then the lead power is hooked to and aux off this fuse panel as well. Other than that, those are the only two electrical additions that are on the vehicle. I did disconnect the .mp3 player (the hot wires, but left the grounds hooked up) and the fuse still blows.

Any help figuring this out would be great. I am one of those people who has to have things working properly or it bugs the hell out of me. So, where should I begin the diagnosis?

My 1999 tahoe does the same exact thing. The power locks, rear speakers, and cig lighter would all not work. It seemed when someone would go to light a ciggy the cars lock and rear speakers would stop working and sure enough another blown fuse. I haven't had it fixed so i'm interested in seeing where this post goes. One important note is that my truck also has a trailer light connector as well.

I just bought a used 1999 Chevy Tahoe and it has the same problem. Wiring for the towing package was added. Off fuse 13 is Cig/lighter, lumbar support, door lock relay, and rear hatch relay. None of them are obviously working. I have put in 4 fuses that have blown. The last two I put in sparked as I put them in. That must mean there is a live connection being fed into the fuse connectors which doesn't make sense because they are all devices that need a connection made to send the current.

I'm at a loss.

Try putting in a higher voltage fuse. It may help. Don't jump from 10 to 30, try 15, then 20 and so on depending on your situation. Don't know if it'll work but it's something I would try if I was having the problem.
