Tamiya Ferrari F2001 Restored!!

Made a mistake by posting in the models:street and show section!! Oops! sorry..
After checking out this forum (especially the models section) for months, I've decided to join as well. Here are a couple of photos of my restored Tamiya Ferrari F2001 (was once near junkyard condition). The whole car is brush painted, but it looks like sprayed to me. Tell me what you guys think. * Custom removable nosecone, details are homemade, no aftermarket expensive parts.

If you painted it using a brush it's a very good job, not the cleanest i've seen but anyway nice.

Brush painting the body is the wrost mistake you can make.

Look good on pictures, but.................... brush painting the body ???

Well, if you use acrylic paints thinned to the perfect consistency with a soft brush, you can acheive airbrush result without the stroke marks!!
I had to sand the surface with 2000+ and up grit sandpaper, just to make sure it's even smoother :) *enamel paints are the worst!
Since the pics qualities are not that great, so it's hard to tell how well the paint job's done!

Enamels are OK if you treat them correctly, and use them for the right purpose..!!

TBH, you really can't beat TS sprays or Airbrush..!! Brush painting takes you so far, spray work you go to the next level..

That is a cool kit, and I've got that car on my to do list, along with SMS P/E upgrades and S27 Decal upgrades..

Like your idea of the front nose cone.. Overall, it's a valid attempt, and a great stepping stone to learn from..!!

Why not give TS spray cans a go..? They are very forgiving, and lay down well..!! I use them a lot, and can really recommend them instead of brush painting or airbrush of you don't have one..

Or you can use automotive spray paint.. But that's whole new issue..!!

Okay make that get youself a good airbrush! :lol: Something like an Iwata and a compressor too.

If you want to improve your finishes that is the best way to go. Of course some people prefer to stick with rattle cans. They don't have the big inital outlay but can cost more in the long run and aren't as flexable.

Alright, if you prefer the technical term, it's called "Testors multipurpose sprayer." But it meets all the definition of what an airbrush is, well single action/external mix wise.
Got another F2001 to build, making the 02 F2001B version!! :smile:

Those "airbrush" aren't worth anything, and you will get better result any day with spray can

Badger produce some nice affordable airbrushes.. I would really recommend you invest in a better airbrush, or at least use learn to use a rattle can. Search around on this forum lots of info on airbrushes and how to lay down a paint job using a rattle can.. Well worth a read, and then you hard work on these F1 cars will look even better.

The Tamiya Ferrari kits are superb, some of the best - why settle for brush painting on nice kits like these?

nice model :) but i guess the cement messed up the paint, and you may want to sand the tire a little bit.
