SS/SC Vs. Celica gt-s

This one is a little less dramatic, but some ppl here have been complaining that there arent enough stories in the steet racing forums. So I'll go ahead and add this in as a filler till something more exciting comes along...

This one happend about a week and a half ago on the highway. I was with my buddy heading back to Vman's place (the irrate drunkin Ford guy) doing about 65 mph. I looked in my mirror and noticed a set of bright lights from a newer car right behind me, riding my ass. The lights then shifted over to the lane just right of my car and I saw a bright red brand new gt-s. It had a can on the back, although I dunno if anything else was in front of it exhaust-wise. He juiced it to get my attention, and he had it. I let him get ahead a bit then dropped it in 3rd and reeled him in, shutting off about half a car ahead of him.

After this I continued at a normal pace doing about 70 mph or so. He fell back in the same lane about 3-5 car lengths. Next thing I know my buddy lets me in on the little bastard's secret weapon...RICER FLY BYE ATTACK!!! He was on wot trying to catch me from behind by surprise, but I was in on his little tactic...when he got to within a half car length behind me I dropped in in 3rd again and matted the go pedal. This haulted his pull at my door jam and I proceeded to put about 2 lengths in third, then another 2-3 lengths in 4th until about 105 mph or so. Then I slowed to a normal pace. This pissed him off and when he caught back up to me he changed into my lane almost rearending my car, then switched another lane over into the HOV lane. Then proceeded to do about 100+ down the HOV to vent his frustration. :banghead: I just let him go his merry way.

Hope this will keep you guys entertained for a couple minutes or so, and no...you can't have your 3 minutes back either. They're mine, bitches. :iceslolan

Good kill. You must have a few bolt-ons being able to pull 2 carlengths in 3rd and an additional 2-3 carlengths in 4th...that's impressive...unlikely, stock for stock, provided the Ceclica was the 6spd. With equal drivers, the SS will get the edge every time, but that's quite a margin you beat him by.

uhh dont celicas need to get to like 7,000 RPMS or so to make there max hp? And at highway speeds thats not really easy to do. Point is, he owned that celica bitch!!!!!

nice kill

Yup, I do have a bolt on...I bolted that CF hood right on there. :iceslolan

Other than the hood the car is stock dude ;)

It's a bit difficult...but once you figure out thier plan of attack it can be done! :iceslolan

I've heard they don't start making good power until 5800-6000 rpm. This is what I've read...celica owners correct me if I'm wrong.

The above is a big problem with a lot of N/A vvt vehicles.

Are you implying that the Celica GTS is a slug when not at "max" power? A LOT of cars make peak power at the top of the RPM band, but it doesn't make them slow when not at peak. It sounds like your logic is that anything can beat a Celica on the hwy since it takes so long to hit 7K rpms. That's just the vibe that I get from your post.

Hondas aren't well known for their torque either, but hey, most of em are still fairly quick.

Have you tested your 1/4 at the track yet?

Hmph. Not bad at all. And in 102 degree heat. I take it you're a pretty good driver.

It's cool. I agree - it was a good kill, and you're right, they're much stronger at higher revs.

He knows this. He was just using a Honda as a comparison to my previous statement mang ;)

And yes, N/A Hondas can be very quick, but they NEED revs. My problem with them is that you have to mean it when you wanna go fast. Gotta be in the right gear at the right time giving a ton of revs.

Heh, doesnt do anything to the car except kill a ton of power. I've never heard an inkling of knock. But I have been running 91 consistantly for about a month or so now. It's so much faster with higher octane.

are you even supposed to pump 87....cause I know if I even think about anything lower than 91 it Ill probably loss about five pounds of boost.......and the motor will fall and run away....lol

Nice kill.. that assclown is an embarassment to all Celica owners. It sounds like he couldn't drive the car very well.

I should be running high 13's with my setup now.. need to get a clutch so I can hit the track :) .

Yeah, you may not hear it detonating. But you should check your plugs to make sure you're not getting any predetonation. Which is just as bad.

I ran my LS1 on 89 octane during the highest of the gas prices, but kept strictly to putting around. Never put it under a heavy load.

My car can safely use 87 all day, even under boost. The ecu just pulls tons of timing to eliminate knock. The owners manuel clearly states it's okay, but recommends high octane.

Pulling the plugs on this motor wouldnt do me any good Matt...it hasnt seen a drop of 87 ;)

I have Intake/Exhaust/Apexi Power FC (standalone ECU).. I'm all N/A

With weight reduction I should be seeing high 13's.. other people with the same mods as me are getting anywhere between 13.5 to 14.0's depending on the tune and amount of weight reduction done.. with the seats out I should be around 13.7.

The Celica weighs in at 2500lbs from the factory.
