E38 LS differential on E34 5 series?

A friend of mine recently had a *small* run in with a Ford F150 with his E38 7 series. We salvaged the differential, and he gave it to me for a song, he's all hyped up about his shiny new replacement. I already have a Limited Slip, and I was wondering if I could mount the differential on my wife's 525i? It would be nice in our inclement weather. As of now, she has to take my son's 325, and he throws a fit...input appreciated.
