I just recently purchaed a '98 mercury villager. I am not sure if it has keyless entry. I thought by looking into the fuse box it would have a separate fuse. Looking through my owner's manual I noticed that on the engine fuse block it has a spot for a fuse named "Keyless Entry Beeper, Timer Module". Would this be the answer? Their is a fuse here.
Anyway other way to tell if it does before I purchase a remote?
Thanks all.

This is how you know.
Get in the car and lock the door with the switch. Insert the key in the ignition and remove 7 times in 30 seconds don't rush you plenty of time. On the secenth one you should see your lights flash. If not then you do not have it. Remotes are no more than $15 at Ebay

When you quote "On the secenth one you should see your lights flash". What do you mean by secenth one? Please explain. Thank you kindly.

Thanks a lot for your help. Yes when I did it the first time, I forgot to lock the doors. I went to the dealer and when he got in it and did it, he locked the doors; then it clicked: That is what I forgot to do, was lock the doors. But the van does have the keyless entry. I went to ebay like you suggested because the dealer wants $64.00 for a remote. Anyway I purchased one for $18.00.
:)IH8SPM, do you know how to program these remotes? Thanks for your replies.

Follow the same instructions I gave you When you remove the key and it flashes turn it to the acc or b4 the start position which should light up all the indicator lights Cel, oil abs etc. Then press lock on the remote followed by unlock on the remote. You should see a flash again confirming you have programmed the remote. Then use the door unlock to get out and test it once you have closed the door press lock. WALA your done. Its in the owners manual.

This is what I have:
(1) Close and lock all doors.
(2) Insert and remove the key from the ignition more than six times within 10 seconds. (The hazard warning lamp will then flash twice.) At this time, the original ID codes are eliminated.
ID code entry:(3) Turn ignition key to "ACC" position.
(4) Push lock button on the new remote controller once (for example, if door is locked using the remote controller during this ID code entry enable state, a new ID code can be entered). At this time, the new ID code is entered. (The hazard warning lamp will then flash twice.)
Additional ID code entry(5) If you need to activate additional remote controllers, unlock the driver's door, then lock again with door lock knob.
(6) Push lock button on the additional new remote controller once.
(7) This ID code entry enable state and setting mode remain until the driver's door is opened.
NOTE
If you need to activate more than two additional new remote controllers, repeat the procedure "Additional ID code entry" for each new remote controller.
If the same ID code that exists in the memory is input, the hazard warning lamps will flash twice but the entry will be ignored.
Entry of maximum four ID codes is allowed and any attempt to enter more will be ignored. Any ID codes entered after termination of the "setting mode" will not be accepted. Additionally remote control signals will be inhibited when an ID code has not been entered during the "setting" mode.
