fuzzy texture

when I airbrush, sometimes I get a fuzzy texture on the paint. Is this cuz I put to much thinner in or not enough? Thanks everyone in advance!

fuzzy? sounds like the paint is drying in mid-air, in that case it is the classic "orange peel"... adding more thinner will cause the paint to dry slower but i'd try to boost the psi a bit first... what psi are you working at? are we talking about body or engine/interior?

I work at ROUND 35 psi and i use HOK paint . So add more thinner? What psi should i shoot at?

I think I was spraying at too high of a pressure. I was using 35.......I think I need to tone it down and use a 15-20 psi i guess. Thanks alot for your replies guys!!! And I'll try to spray closer to the model next time.

does it look like cotton candy? if so, you need to thin it more, it is too thick. I had the same problem

Yah, when its on the model it has a funny tesxture. Its not spider webbing, like what happens wit clearcoating. Its on the model, and I think it dries to fast, like, before it hits the model. I going to take a shot and turn down the pressure and spray closer to the model.

I tried everything while I was spraying. It got a little better when I got closer to the model. but automotive paint needs to be thinner than model paint...from what I have found

i don't know muc habout using an airbrush, but it sounds to me like you're spraying from too far away.

Edit: I just read your last post. Maybe you should get even closer. Airbrushes spray much finer particles than spraycans, so the particles dry quicker while "in flight."

Could be what I call "powdering", I get it some times. If what you're experiencing is similar, I think is caused by the paint drying to much before it reaches the surface of the model. Can fix it any number of ways, playing with the pressure, consistency, distance from the model. If it isn't too bad a light sand of the surface can smooth it out.
