well, i posted this some time ago, but could not find the thread anywhere.
Just to make long story short. ...
My mechanic was going through a truck that i recently bought... and said that the alternator was bad...so i told him to replace it...
He put a rebuild one in... it worked just fine for few days... but after few days it started not to charge ... only when truck started after a longer period of sitting... it does not charge for 2 minutes roughly.. and then it goes to 15+ and works fine for the rest of the drive.
I went back to my mechanic and told him to get me a new one. He got me an another unit. The second one worked fine. Except that when driving on the highway at night... i would see my lights go dark and light ... if i looked at the volt gauge... i would see the needle to wave a little bit, but not much, it was barely visible.
Went to my mechanic, gave him shit about this rebuild stuff... he got me a NEW unit, brand spanking new, and shiny ... put it in... worked fine for a while... than started doing the same thing as the first one... ... somebody on the site suggested voltage regulator inside the alternator... but is that possible? 3 alternators???? battery is also brand new.. oh 2000 4.8 :)

Check your wires from the Alt to the battery and also the ground wires. Seen a few of them on the forum that had charging problems caused by the power not getting to the system. Also are you sure the battery is good?
Good Luck.
Good Luck.

Yeah, I've had a brand new battery or two that turned out to be bad. New does not mean it's neccessarily good

I had the very exact problem with my truck. The whole voltage fluctuation thing. My truck was under warranty though. The guy at the dealership said that the diode went bad in my alternator. They replaced it with a brand new Delphi Alt. and I haven't had a problem since. I would find it very unlikely to have 3 bad in a row, but anything is possible. Try replacing with a new delphi.
I have heard that the AC/Delco batteries in these trucks are shit and that they will break at the post. Is that the brand of battery you have by chance?
Good luck,
Jake
