Timing chain noise

Hey I just bought a 93 240sx fastback with 147k miles and it has a intermitent rattle sound coming from the front of the engine right around where the timing chain should be around 1300rpm. I removed the valve cover in search of the sound. While running the engine I broke out the stethoscope and began poking around again and heard it near the timing chain. I read that this could be the chain slapping because the guide broke. Is this generally what it is? While i've got the engine apart should I just replace the timing chain? Or can I get away with using the old chain?

Timing chain rattle is normal. Just check to see if the top guide is still there. If it is, remove it. Two bolts hold it in place right between the cams. It is no longer included in timing chain kits either.

lol i'm still in your account WHAT NOW!!!

OK so I forgot to log out and you decided to post a picture of the car you just bought as my signature.

C.G.E. Cardboard Ground Effects.

Look I told you that $12.3k was TOO much but since the guy decided to throw in the "body kit" it is well worth it!

Nice ricer!
