at a red light a newer neon R/T lines up with me. the dude throws some revs and I look over. I ask him, you dont think so really do you, and he replies, hell yeah.
so I rev a bit to tell him its a go and on green we gun it and I start pulling on him.

Well I think I'm now fully capable of repairing anything on a Dodge Neon thanks to your riveting account of the race and precise description of every last detail about the car. Thanks!!!

Neons are different cars. Sometimes, they'll embarass you. Other times, you'll walk on them like the economy car they are. In part, it's because they're a Dodge product, which means they'll have good days and bad days with no reason why. It also has to do with the fact that Neons need a lot of maintenance to remain at the top of their game. Air filter gets a bit dirty, injectors not flowing quite 100%, and they have trouble getting out of their own way. Trouble is, they make all their power past 5k RPM, peaking out at between 6500 and 7k RPM...but at the same time, that high RPM driving is really hard on the engine seals, oil, and bearings.
Personally, I feel sorry whenever I see someone driving a neon and occasionally let them think they've won. After all, they are driving a Neon, the penalty box of automobiles. If I can ease their suffering, then I've done my good deed for the day.

And they also suffer from a problem called “they just suck”. Many economy cars also suffer from this. :disappoin

Huh...considering the Grand Am GT costs a bit more than the SRT-4 and offers amenities such as power windows for the back seat passengers, a trunk that can hold more than a couple of gym bags, and wasn't built on a platform originally intended to compete with the Geo Metro and Suzuki Swift, I'm rather at a loss as to why you would think that...unless the only thing that matters to you is your 0-60, in which case I would've bought a GTO or Mustang GT; used if their price new was too much.
I mean, the Dodge Omni GLH was a fast car too, but it was still a Dodge Omni, the penalty box of automobiles in its day and the car the Neon effectively replaced.
Or perhaps it didn't occur to you that people who buy cars like a Grand Am GT could easily afford any Neon? :grinno:

o and i did learn to drive with a dodge omni. those were fun to drive in the snow, gas is cheap for them, and only you can fit in the car. sounds pretty fun to go on car trips with......
btw, they were the fastest car ive ever raced in. i dont think id call them the penalty box car, its more like a restraining order that you must WOT until you finally reach 45mph/72kmh in that good 10 seconds.

Or self-respect and dignity...
I know quite a bit about Neons because...I used to own one! I remember back in '95 when they came out, they were priced to compete against the Geo Metro and Suzuki Swift. Heck, they even had 13" wheels too! Build quality wasn't quite as good as the Metro/Swift, but they were faster (until the head gasket blew). I was a poor student back then, and those were the kind of cars I could afford.
I was going to trade in that Plymouth Neon (twin cam 2.0/5 speed) for an SRT-4, but then I found my dignity and self-respect (and some money I had been saving up). I realized that even with a turbocharged 2.4, it was still just a Neon. Good car for a boy racer on a tight budget, even better car for a GIRL racer. Not my kind of car. So I traded in that old Neon, got next to nothing for trade-in value (which is common for penalty box cars), spent a little more money and got something more...refined. :iceslolan

Riding in a neon going 110 (which we estimated, the speedo was jumping around eratically) has to be one of the more scary things i've done in a car.
It wasn't so much going 110, but going 110 in a neon.

With the Neon I owned, the governer was theoretically set at 120, while the car was supposedly drag limited to 130. Whenever I'd have the opportunity to see if I could bounce off the speed limiter, my love for life caused me to back down after hitting 95-100 mph. Like you said, it wasn't going that fast that was scary, but doing it in a Neon. Bad enough to have to drive a Neon, it'd be worse if that's the car I died in! I can do 110 mph in the Grand Am GT, and the only thing I fear then is losing my license because the car feels quite stable and capable at that speed.

A 93 Buick century does 0-60 in 8.57 and the quarter in 16.89
Now unless the Neon was driven by a crappy driver, which is very possible, it should have won.
Im not sure if a 7.5 is correct tho, because i've beaten them in my saturn, and im pretty sure my car aint under a 7.5, even with me behind the wheel :smokin:

Im not sure if a 7.5 is correct tho, because i've beaten them in my saturn, and im pretty sure my car aint under a 7.5, even with me behind the wheel :smokin:
Edmunds puts the '98 Neon R/T at 9.1 seconds in the 0-60 run, and the '99 R/T at 8.8 seconds which I'd say is fairly accurate. A heavily modified Neon R/T might see a 0-60 run in 7.7 seconds on a very good day.
A 93 Buick century does 0-60 in 8.57 and the quarter in 16.89
Now unless the Neon was driven by a crappy driver, which is very possible, it should have won.

Get a grip, dude...it's only a car. The build quality, ergonomics, refinement, ride and comfort of the Grand Am GT is so much better than a Neon. There is more to a car than just how fast it will get you to the next set of traffic lights, you know...
if I wanted ergonomics for the day I would jump on my 05 ZX-636R...and if I wanted refinement, ride and comfort....I would jump in my fiancees 05 mazda 6......and of course there is more to a car than just how fast it will get you to the next set of traffic lights  ...silly.... billy.....but alot of guys on this forum would agree this is where you talk about those kinds of things.......STREET RACING......ect.....not how comfortable a car could be when going to walmart......and how many bags you could fit it in the trunk....haha :grinno:

Yeah, and a Pontiac Grand AM is such a cool car.
Anyhow, that was the worst racing story I've ever read. Also, I call bullshit since this guy drives a damn 1993 Buick Century. A Neon R/T could beat that.
You suck, therefore I hate you. in case you weren't aware i can beat the same kinda car as you got with a 3.0L V6. and I just dont like your attitide. You probably think I have a 4banger but your wrong agaain. I have 3.3L V6.
P.S. I like your fartpipe mod on your race car. :screwy:

Nice job of posting 2 exact same replies with different words. Polygons GTC would eat you alive, its in the 14's, while you are high 16's.

Look man, lay off the flaming or you'll be gone. For your information, my car with the 3.0L V6 is much slower than the 2.2L turbo-charged version that I have. Even with that massive 3.3L V6 my LeBaron would dust you. You drive a damn Buick Century, they aren't fast. Also, that LeBaron is my project car and that small exhaust is only there since I had to put on a new muffler to pass safety when I bought the car. Also, unlike you, I'm not ignorant and I assumed you have a V6 under your hood. However, just because you have a bigger engine doesn’t mean you have a faster car especially when the poor thing has a heavy load like a Buick to haul around.
I still don't think you could beat an R/T, a regular Neon yes, but not an R/T.
So let's recap. Besides, your ignorance about my which isn't really a problem since there are tons of you, you broke some rules.
1. No flaming.
2. Don't double post.
3. Don't edit people's quotes.
Don't do any of those again and go read the forum rules.

A mod is a moderator, meaning I can edit your posts, delete them, and I can ban you from the forums all together among other things.

Haha, considering you are the one who pm'ed me wondering if you could beat me and all...
I've beaten neon's, and R/T neon's
Based on your stat's, I would beat you.
Don't get upset that you drive a slow car, and feel the need to bash everyone. Get a little humility, and a faster car.
