How much engine oil to put in?

I just bought a 2000 Eclipse GT a month ago, and I am wondering how much Motor Oil to put in (I wanna do an oil change)?

4 1/2 quarts...

PS...its stated in the user manual.

I know it says 4.5 qt in the manual, but after adding 4 qt, the dip stick indicates that the oil has reached the max level.

I made sure I drained out all the oil from the plug and the oil filter before I added the 4 qts in.

What's the verdict?

put the 3.5 quarts in, start the car, let it run for a minute or two, turn it off, and add the last quart.

the reason? when you are putting oil into the engine, it does NOT go into the oil filter until the car is cranked. once the car is cranked, the oil is circulated through the filter(which also fills the filter up). this will create the extra space.
