I saw an intake manifold on ebay saying that it was by professional products, but made in conjunction with AEBS. Is This what everyone calls the AEBS I.M. or does AEBS make their own manifold? heres a link to the page.

AEBS makes their own manifold, but judging by the picture they are the same. http://www.aebsracing.com/products.pl?product=intake

Yeah must be. Everything is the same, I think I'll go ahead and get it.

I hope you haven't gotten it yet. If you haven't, then don't. First off, my buddies shop did flow bench test on all the popular street intake manifolds and found that no manifold flowed a significant amount better. He then did dyno testing and found that no manifold got a significant power gain. This is on an NA b18c1. Finally, I made the mistake of getting this manifold by AEBS, didn't notice any power gain, and it has an annoying whistle at about 3,000 rpms. Some info behind the AEBS manifold. AEBS developed the manifold, but had Professional Products mass produce it. Later it was found that the mass produced manifold did not perform like the AEBS developed manifold, even though AEBS is still technically the producer of the manifold. They were going to fix the problem and release the new manifold that would produce the power they claimed, but then AEBS got a new owner who only cares about sleeving blocks (which is what they are known for anyway). So if you were to get a manifold, I wouldn't get that one. But real life tests show that they are not worth the time and money anyway (unless you are going to have a built motor).

Well it arrives today. You're the first person to say anything bad about the mani. I'm not really expecting any big gains maybe a little in the mid range. I think realisticly it will add about 5whp. Plus I'll be using a hondata type heatshield(probally the knock off from passwordjdm) and my TB will be matched to the 65mm inlet. I just basically want it to flow better. Even with all three of these mods I'm only expecting 12whp. Keeping in mind that I live in CA (the worst smog controlled state) passing smog and reliability are my primary concern not added hp & tq those come in a very close 2nd.

I want to see this backed up.
what other mods were on the GSR?

I believe it was a stock GSR. As far as both go, I can't give out names or names of shops, but it is all legitamate and from very reliable sources. You might even be able to call up AEBS and complain about the manifold. They claim a 20hp gain on a stock b16, which according to my sources was accurate, but then they found that the mass produced units were not manufactured to the same precise 3's and didn't produce hp. I'm not saying you won't gain anything, but the gains are a lot smaller than they claim, a lot.
Like I said too, I have the AEBS Typhoon intake manifold from Professional Products. I found all this out after it had been on my car for about 3 months. Mine is on an LS/Vtec. I was pretty upset and my friend was going to get me one of the new ones for free when they came out, but then AEBS came under new ownership.

i don't see how that mani guarantees like 20 hp gain.... i could see like 5 or something, but 20 is kinda pushin it don't you think?

Well your estimate is much closer to the truth. It gets about 3-4 hp, it's a bitch to put on, and it costs $170. Is it worth it?

Aftermarket IM's are pointless unless you've got some work done to the engine, or going forced induction. On a stock engine, you may very likely lose power instead of gain (not to mention also hurting your gas mileage). I find it very strange that a lot of people consider intake manifold upgrades and bigger throttle bodies as basic bolt-ons.

With the knowledge I have now, I comletely agree with you.

As I agree with civicspoon. I also find it VERY hard to buy what your saying when your info can't be released.
I think most of us all know they fudge the tests to inflate gains *run fan into intake tubing etc* all companys do this.
but showing losses on a stock c1 well dur every intake mani does this due to the butterflies it has gain some top end by massive mid losses.
short of the gsr intake mani the other vtec manis flow great I agree on near stock setups should be left alone.
I've read nothing about AEBS quaitly dropping. To be honest I've read nothing bad its a little gain same as say skunk2 *ick* for around 1/2 the price granted its an ugly bugger that really doesn't matter.
We need some real proof other then a unameable shop before we can take what you said to heart.

Actually I think it's ok looking, I got the satin one and it looks very close to the stock thing, which is good so nobody(especially cops, if I get my hood popped again) will question it as an aftermarket part, granted blox and skunk2 look better but it was lees than 1/2 the skunk2 price and about $60 cheaper than blox. I only paid 130 for it shipped so I think it's worth it. Let you guys know how the motor responds when I get the TB and hondata gasket done. (I'm going to do it all at once)
Which reminds me... Are the "passwordjdm" or "thermoshield" knockoffs as good as the real thing?

I know, I can see why it's kinda hard to swallow. The dyno and flow testing was done at two different shops by two different people. And the info about AEBS was a friend of the previous owner. But believe what you want, I just try to help.
