ok guys, in light of my recent promotion at work....i HAVE to buy a new car for daily driving. My LT1 is simply too nice, low low miles and the racing clutch and future 396 engine is gonna make it not so fun to drive everyday. I have decided to keep it as flawless as possible and garage it for most of its life, except for shows and the occasional weekend. So, im thinking about a LS1 ws6, and just keeping it bone stock..cept maybe an exhaust. I like the 05 GTO, but for the money, i can get two used ls1's and only be a little behind in HP. Besides, as a daily driver...im not overly concerned with HP. I just want a smooth reliable car. So, what should i be looking for with LS1 cars? any problem years?

I'm not positive on this, but my friend with a 2000 T/A said to stay away from the 98's. He said they weren't as powerful. Forgot why it was that he said that....? I'm not really an LS1 buff, I'm sure Mr. Luos will nail the head on this one though.

I am confused.

Why not the LT1 car for the daily driver and the LS1 car as the car to get mods??
Also, why get an LS1/LT1 powered car as a daily driver?? That seems kinda nuts. They aren't really DD type cars. Powerful RWD cars just aren't good daily drivers.

I am thinking about trading off the Grand Am GT soon because it just isn't doing the daily driver trick anymore. Not with gas this expensive.

98 < 99-00 < 01-02
Nothing really wrong with any of them though. The 1998's should make no less power than the 99-00's. The design of a couple things did change though from 1998 to 1999. Under the hood anyway.

GET A RICER CAR. and be all "my other car is a muscle" and when ppl laugh, you return with your LT1 x]

or something.. haha

get a honda civic hybrid and slap on a LS1 patch :) and you get awesome gas mileage...

speaking of which, i must go weld the "VIPER" emblem to my bicycle... (jp)

I agree with what Mr.Luos said. If your looking for a daily driver and knowing the typical winter weather in your area. A V8 powered rear wheel drive is far from the ideal car for you. I would recommend a Front wheel drive 4-6 Cylinder. I think you'll find that serves you better at the pump and in severe weather. Just my :2cents: though

sorry i got back to this thread so late, i was out of town...

anyways...some clarification....

i have a yukon for winter weather...so driving it around in shitty NY winters won't really happen. gas mileage im not overly concerned about... I have decided not to get an econo box because 1. its not me 2. im impractical by nature....

now, the reason im not going to daily drive the lt1 and mod an ls1 is this..... MY lt1 is a very low production car. I have yet to get the actual numbers but i do know this; of the 6357 GT transams made most were automatic, most had leather and most had t-tops. Mine has none of that. On top of that...its the least popular color ordered. Another reason is emotional attatchment. Ive been through alot with that car. One more reason...i like being an underdog with an lt1.

I modded the hell outta my WS.6.
It is one of 5010 in 1999.
One of 1100 black ones.
