e-brake question

Even on a slight incline, my '93 will roll backwards unless I really stand on the emergency brake to get that final click. From what I have read there is no manual adjustment for the emergency brake. What gives? Could I be just the rear drums are out of adjustment? I believe these are also automatic adjustment. Normal braking seems sure and positive. Not 4-wheel disc powerful, but solid. Any thoughts? Or is this just the nature of the beast?

try removeing rear drums and checking adjustment. thats the way to be sure. how far does it travel before hitting the tension. there is also an adjuster under your door. the normal braking rely about 80% on front anyway. when was the last brake inspection/adjustment ??

Apparently, it was the rear brake adjustment creating the problem. The automatic adjuster was sticking. After several hard stops in reverse, the parking brake seems to engage earlier in it's travel. Will inspect rear drums and clean and lube adjusters.

good fix. I rarely rely on adjusters doing their job correctly. the brake dust just kills them.

I found that on my ranger's the adjusters tend to get so clogged and rusted that I just replace them. Cheap and easy fix and then the brakes tend to work fine. For my emergency brake adjuster on the cable under the drivers side door I built a small steel cage which I fitted with rubber edging to help keep water out. sure helps when the damn thing isnt rusted out when you need to adjust it.
