Hi all. Hope to solve my problem here. My wife has a 96 grand am SE. I cannot seem to keep her car running. It will start fine and run for 10 secs and then shut off. I can do this all day. I just will not stay running. As well, every light on the dash is lit up as well and will not go out including the anti-theft light. Everything stays lit up full time. I thought maybe it was the cluster so I replaced it. That did not make a difference. I've done the key ahead procedure for 10 minutes as well. Still no difference from cluster I removed. I returned the cluster I just purchased and put the old one back in and got another computer for the car thinking maybe that was the problem instead. Still no change.......Dash lights are still lit up like a christmas tree and car wont stay running. I have been working on this for a couple of weeks now trying to find answers and everything is telling me that its something to do with the anti-theft system. Not sure but I am very desperate, and would like to know if I can get around this problem. I can't afford to send in to a dealer at this time and my wife needs her car back for work. Please help...........Thanks for your time
Dave

check with your local Disc. auto or Autozone and see if they will rent you a code scanner.. then see if you have any trouble codes stored in the ECM... even if you've replaced the ECM, the codes should've been placed back in there after trying to run it again with the same problem.
Personally... the Security light will not let the vehicle start.. and the SEC. light will flash... that's what happened with my 96GAGT.. after a bit the SEC light just stay on all the time and I haven't had a problem since.
What engine do you have??
Scanning for codes is the logical first step though.

Have you tried disconnecting your battery for a few min and reconnecting?? I had the same problem in my Grand Prix about 3 months ago. When i started the car it would die 3 sec later. This fixed the problem but left the secirity light flashing but it stayed running lol

Sounds like a anti theft computer problem. Try disconnecting the Battery for 15 mins then reconnecting everything and trying to start
