Hey guys, I have a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 and I'm trying to troubleshoot why the 4x4 won't engauge at all in any setting. I read somewhere it may have to do with vacuum lines, and when I crawled under the truck, there is only one going to the transmission crossmember, but a nipple for another but no line attached to it. Could this be the problem? If so, to where does this other (absent) vacuum line lead? If this could not be causing my engaugement problems, what else should I look for? Thanks.

ok, there should be a total of 3 vac lines, one from the engine to the vac switch(located on the transfer case), and two lines from the T-case to the CAD(Central Axle Disconnect) on the front axle.
if I remember correctly, portions of these lines are metal hard lines, and portions are flexible plastic.

here is a link to some information about the 4wd system, and how it works, http://dodgeram.org/tech/repair/4X4/4x4_engagment.htm

also, you could always just start at the axle, and follow the lines back to the T-case.

I forgot, there is also a vent line coming off of the vac switch on the T-case. that means there is a total of 4 lines attatched to the vac switch on the T-case; 1-vac source(from engine), 2-vac to axle for 2wd, 3-vac to axle for 4wd, and 4-vent.
sorry about that, but just take a look at the diagram about half way down on that page in the link above, it should explain it prety clearly.
