I have a 1993 Ford Escort LX w/ a 1.9L I-4 Auto 4-Door Hb w/ 190,000miles. On two separate occasions, my car had trouble warming up. The first time I got in and cranked it over. It was struggling to keep the rpms up. I put it in drive and circled the parking lot twice. Whenever I slowed down or slowed down to make a turn it stalled. I had it towed a mechanic and he started it up and let it run for an hour. He said he couldn't find anything wrong with it.

The second time, I started the car, and just kept it in motion by keeping the rpms up. When the engine was warmed up, it ran fine. In other words, it has trouble running smooth when the engine is cold.

Has anybody ever had trouble warming up? Any information or Advice would be greatly appreciated.

It is quite possible that the thermostat is stuck in the open position and causing the engine not to warm up properly. Change it and the problem should go away.
