Saw a simliar post in the windstar forum, thought I'd see what its like for the cars with the same transmisson. Question is, how many miles have you gotten on your original transmission before major work required? If possible, what was the year of vehicle, mileage, engine/trans model, and type of failure? Should be interesting to see....

umina,
My taurus has 97000 + miles with no major trans problems to date. I just changed tranny fluid every 20000 to 25000 miles,

2000 SES ....100,000 mi ..Changed trans filter and fluid (did not flush)
No problems except leak from main seal when engine has been running for a while Getting all seals replaced soon ..will cost $400.

By the way, my brother has two ford explores, both have around 250,000 miles on original tranny, no problems. That puts these numbers on this post in perspective.

It also depends a lot on how you drive...if you constantly accelerate a lot, putting lots of power while at low speed, I read that the transmission doesn't like that - the oil heats up too much, but if you accelerate softly, its ok.
