Anyone know what the difference between K1500 and K2500 in the 1992 year model range? I own a 92 K 1500 and was wondering what the difference in the mounting of the front differential is between these two trucks. I assumed they were very similar.

Can you swap a 2500 front differential into a 1500 truck along with the cv joints?

Also anyone know of a limited slip type differential or electric or air locker that works or fits a 1992 K1500. I've hear also the the Detroit Truetrac is a good setup for the front end but I don't think anyone makes anythging for a 1500 series truck.

Any comments? Email at elbert.clarke**@adelphia.net if you want or post here...I'm new to this forum, I'll try to check it regularly...I do post on the alt.chevy4*4 newsgroup. Remove the ** to email.

As for mounting they are the same, but be warned when changing chunks "aka diffs" always check the gear ratio to be positive it is the exact same as the rear . If not major damage can accure,as for lockers they're many oppsions.

I'm looking for a K2500 front differential because as I understand it the 2500 is a 9.25 differential and the 1500 is a 8.25 differential. Eaton makes an e-locker for the 9.25 and no-one makes any type of posi unit for the 8.25.

I'm wondering if it truely is a simple bolt in replacement?

I'm aware of the need to match the gearing front to back.

ANyone done a swap like this?
