Electric VS Mechanical and home made MBC

Ok, so now that the test pipe problem is out of the way :) it is time to get going on a boost guage/ MBC. Would a mechanical boost guage work ok? I noticed that the mechanical boost guages are like $50-$70 while the electrical ones are like $200, but if the mechanical one will be accurate and work ok, then we will get that one.
Now home made MBC's. Mike and I are cheap and we like to do things for as little as possible when it can be done cheaply and it will work decently. Not too long ago in here someone posted directions to make your own MBC, but I cant find them. If that person could repost them, I would greatly appreciate it. While I was looking for that post, I found this:

Jake made one out of 3 parts and like $6. Does anyone know how that worked out for him? As soon as Mike gets a boost guage and we get it working, I am going to Ace and picking those parts up unless someone can tell me that it for sure wont work. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Mechanical boost guages work fine. Mine's a $30 EBay SPW gauge, reads boost pretty ok (though I ahve no comparison otherwise).
As far as the MBC goes, I strongly suggest just purchasing an MBC instead of making your own. You wouldnt want your MBC to fail and become wide open.
MBCs are cheap as nails. Forget the TurboXS ones and the other "dual" types. I got mine from joePMBC.com for $40 shipped with all hardware for install already included. There are tons and tons of good reviews on his MBCs. It's worth it spending the slightly extra dough and just getting something that has already been tried and tested very successfully, than even having a hint of suspision (lo, sp?) on the home-made one. A bad MBC can blow the turbo if it decides to open on you. This is not to say that you can't make one yourself, but with such low prices, why not just buy it? Sorry, that did little to answer you question, but that's my two cents :)

That was me :) http://www.darklightning.com/gi/mbc.htm
I agree with shpyder, MBCs are way too cheap to go to the trouble of building one. I only posted those instructions to be a smart ass to the guy who asked for more power should he get the white faced gauges, or the short shifter and some strut bars or some crap.

some ebc's can anticipate boost and guarantee to keep boost at or below the set level. also the wastegate stays shut while boosting until the set psi, making spool much quicker
