Finished: Blue 300ZX

Here's my 300ZX, finished. It was originally yellow and nasty-looking (being my first model) but a quick skinny-dip into Castrol Super Clean got rid of all that. Now it's Tamiya Transparent Blue (as you all requested! :D ) over chrome, which in my opinion makes it look really cool. Depending on the light it can look anywhere from light blue to almost violet. I lost one of the clear markers on the front, by the way.
Tell me what you think.

I like the yellow engine bay, it looks pretty cool. Is the undercarriage yellow too? It looks like you have a yellow neon underbody kit on it. sweet :)

Good work.
Great idea of using clear colours over a chromate painting to create various tonalities depending of the intensity of the light.
Always learning =)

Looks very good, only I don't like the front window, just looks like someone leaked some oil on it. but great color of the car.

I think the windows need a bit of a clean. But besides that, It is a great model, I would of never thought that Tranparent paint over chrome paint would work but you've proved me wrong.

Sweet it worked:)
Looks really good, I do like the yellow engine bay etc. looks like so many cars around here that have had "cheap" resprays done. (cheap in the sence that the whole car was not done, just what you see on the exterior)

thug - Yeah the windows are still a little slippery from the Castrol Super Clean, and I still have no idea how to clean clear plastic without fogging them, or leaving water spots, or something bad.
Max - My dad had half a can of plastikote Bumper Chrome from waaay back (before I started modeling) so I just used that over plastikote grey primer.
tazdev - Cool, I've never seen one of those for myself but that would be exactly what it would be in real life :D

If it is because of oil or something, just try cleaning it with a little soap and water, that won't hurt anything :)
What's castrol super clean made of anyway?

Castrol Super Clean is a extremely basic solution, pH of about 12 or 13 I think. It works by getting in between the paint and the surface, and the paint just slides right off. Bases are very slippery, I don't think adding soap/water would help...soap itself being a base :)

Yeah, if you ever want to get a really nice metallic effect and you have an airbrush, you should use this method(Clear on Chrome/silver). This is what a lot of sci-fi modelers i know use to get a nice metallic effect because when they use the spray cans, often time they'll get large 'specs' of metallic stuff, which doesn't look too good. This way you'll get a nice even shinny metal look.

At this stage have a whole bunch of 18-19" rims sitting in the cabnet that i may use.
Thinging of a lowing job( ) and the same rims i used on my EVO7.
Trouble is i really like the rims that come with the kit
