Im surprised it doesnt say to only run 93 octane.
If your stock I would think that 91 would be ok. I run 89 octane in mine during the week for work. I aslo realize that when Im running 89 that I'm see around 5 to 7 degs of Knock Retard so I know not to beat the shit out of the car.

So do you think it would be to hard on my engine if i ran 89 octane just for running to work as long as im not drivin it to hard, and than if im gonna go runnin around racing on the weekends or whatever i put in some 91 or 93?

Even just going to work, it won't be good for your engine. That doesn't mean you can't, but it will just take some life time off of your engine. If you're planning on the car lasting you a while, I'd just run 91 or 93. I own a GT myself, so I don't know from personal experience, thats just what I've heard...

Measure the pulley. People have been known to just throw on a small pulley and think thats it.

You'll be OK Curtis. Just go with your original battle plan. Even Rip uses mid-grade whenever he can get away with it. Personally, I use preminum only in my GTP. Better safe than sorry. When gas was over $3/gal I used mid-grade in my Regal GS (same L67 as GTP) but switched back because I lost fuel mileage. Good luck!

Custis, why don't you repeat what you told me as to how you plan on running or switching between the mid-grade and premium. Something about mid-grade during the work week and premium when you're ready to show off or get it on during the weekends? :dunno:
Then we can all weigh-in again. :lol2:

I just figured i since during the week i probly wont be driving it more than 20 miles a day or so to and from work why not save a little money with 89, than when it hits thursday or so ill make sure to put some higher grade in so i can go show my car off to all the little ricers that think there fast! And eventually after i get some mods done, i might hit the tracks! I have just been putting 91 in cuz i wasnt sure how bad it would be on my engine.

Hi Guys
Just curious as to what the price of fuel is in your areas. I live in Northern Ontario, Canada. (not that far north tho, I Can look across the river and see Sault Ste Marie .Michigan ) I had a little chuckle when I read Bob`s post here (when gas was over $3/gal). I wish I only paid $3 / gal. Heck I`d even put Premium in my riding mower if I only paid that much....LoL. Today Premium gas is selling for $ 5.18 /gal . regular unleaded is $4.72 /gal. Now some of you guys may know that the U.S gallon is is smaller than the Imperial gallon ,which is what we use in Canada. We also have the good old metric system of measurement so we buy our fuel by the litre. The U.S gallon is Approx. 3.8 litres , Canadian is 4.5 litres. I have converted and figured using the U.S. gallon and gas for you guys and the price would be premium $4.36/gal and regular $3.99. Just curious .This a Great site and some of You Guys are Very Knowledgeable ,very good info. I am very impressed and enjoy reading the forum.

You need to look at whats practical. Although it doesn't hurt mixing the two different grades it sounds like a PITA. Here's a hypothetical....lets say you're cruising down or up I-10 on the way home from work and one of those Ricers eggs you on. What are you going to do if you're running the mid-grade?
And what are we talking about, a 10 cents per gallon difference bewteen mid-grade and premium. 1 dollar on 10 gallons? Skip a lunch at Micky D's or Burger King and you'll make up the difference.
Not all GTPs are created equally. You'll never really know what difference it will really make until you hookup an auto scanner with knock retard (KR) readout or run a program like Autotap.
It the meantime it's better safe than sorry.

We're at a current low of $2.49/gal at Walmart/Murphy's for reg. unleaded.
However, name brands such as Chevron or Shell are around $2.63/gal for 87 oct. reg. unleaded. $2.73 mid-grade (88 oct) and $2.83 for premium (91 oct).
If we had to pay similar prices like in Canada, we'd probably have a revolution or some serious impeachment movement. :lol2:
