ser-vice light on !!!

my service light is annoying !!! It stays on for a couple of minutes after I start it. I know it is a reminder, but I do my own maintenance and would like to know how to turn it out ??? I have read on this site a procedeure of "key to position 1, then hold the odometer button, turn key to position 2 and hold til light flashes then release. I have performed this and a similar procedeure I read about on other sites, but my light doesn't go out !!! My car is a 2001 S-40. anyone have any idea why that won't work on my 01 ???

Turn key three clicks while holding down the trip reset button. the service light flash will three times and then release the button.
