cooling fans T/A

I own a 95 pontiac trans am with the LT1 and I am having problems with the coolling fans coming on when the car is still cold. The service engine light also comes on at the same time, when the fans go off the engine light goes off. This happens every 5 minutes. Any suggestions?

Could be a bad relay.
