I have a 86 firebird trans am with a rebuilt 305. In May theres a big race goin down and every1 is watching it and the fastest cars in the school are the ones racing. i've beat every1 thats going to be in this race except for one guy who has a 97 camaro with a 350. Wat should i do to make my car faster within that time period with out haveing to change the engine to be able to beat him in about a mile race? Thanx

Is this race a road course I take it? If you dont want to change the engine but plan on changing it after, you could always slap a small nitrous kit on it to get you up closer to the 350 stock power (just in case the ole 305 is older and the nitrous is too much for the engine to last). You probably should upgrade the sway bars/stabalizer bars and maybe the brakes if you have a lot of turns and braking to catch up with the '97s suspension. Also, tires make a huge difference. Find a nice sticky tire and youll be in better shape.

haha TURBO CHARGE. or..strap on a JATO :] i wish i could.. how about instead of improving yours, make sure his works junker :P
haha jp, but yeah... idk, doesnt his 350 have a lot more torque so if you're drag-racing..you could be in some trouble ...i think you should get n0s :)

the race is more of just a straight highway for about between a half mile and a full mile sumwhere around there i'm the one deciding betwen the 4 of us. but my 305 was just rebuilt by a professional auto mechanic so its pretty new. Tonight i just got my holley 4 barrel double pumper carberator rebuilt so theres a plus on that part but the 305 i could probly strap on a small nitrous kit for it. How much do u think it will cost? Also the tires i can find sum before the race probly drag radials so i have all that taken care of but if i just get nitrous and the tired will that be all or willl i need some more stuff? thanx

Well, a mild nitrous kit will probably run about $500 if you install it yourself...estimate. It should bring you right up there with a stock '97 camaro or pretty close. The LT1 made about 300-320 hp stock in those years where that 305 is closer to 190 stock...hopefully you have the advantage in that you have a fresh motor and the nitrous boost if you get it. In the long run, if you decide to upgrade the motor to say a 350, you can always swap the nitrous to the new motor...so its not a waste either way. Good luck.

gears,headers,heads,intake,exhaust,nitrous.. the sky's the limit the question is how much u wanna spend. 305's suck though i'd swap it out.
