hey i just had a question about bore and stroke. i have a 350 bored/stroked to a 363. bored 30 over which would be a 355 am i wrong? so what exactly is the stroke? never really understood all that. how do you calculate?

you sure you don't mean 383? a 350 bored .030 over with a 3.75 stroke comes out to 383.

i honestly dont know. the guy i bought it from said it was just rebuilt bored out to a 363.. and i ripped it apart the pistons were marked 30 over. maybe it is a 383? shit, 383 sounds good to me

A stock 350 is 4.00 bore and 3.48 stroke.

4.030 x 3.48 = 355

Your '363' with 4.030 pistons would have to have a 3.56 stroke.

The formula for finding CID is bore squared times stroke, times 0.7854 times number of cylinders.

ok well i have no idea about the stroke. how can i determine if the guy saying it was a 363 was full of shit or if it really is a 383 stroker?

I would probably say it's a 383 if it really is. A 3.56 stroke crank would be a custom piece and for what?

I've heard of a 4.125" bore block and 3.33 stroke - 358 cubes and lots of wind up power! This is what NASCAR engines spec to. I've heard of 4.0 x 3.75 (377) and 4.03 x 3.75 (383) but never 363 4.03 x 3.56!

It's hard to determine what the actual stroke is without tearing down the engine, unless you can CC out the cylinder (and this also requires knowledge of the combustion chamber sizes).

If you've got the heads off (which you had at one point if you saw the pistons were .030 over), then with the #1 cylinder at BDC you can measure the distance between piston crown and deck, then again at TDC, the difference between the two is your stroke.

gotcha.. yeah i have never even heard of a 363.. i bought the motor and the guy said it was completely rebuilt and was bored out to a 363 so i was like whatever dude and took it now im just tryin to figure out what it really is. ill strip it down again and measure the cylinder. appreciate the help
