1990 GM Security System HELP

Hello, have a 1990 c pu whenever I reconnect the battery terminals after doing some work the horn beeps for what seems like an eternity.
I've tried every thing to remedy you can imagine how annoying it is to the neighbors. Decals on the windows read GM goodwrench vehicle security system. There is no information in the owners manual. Can anyone be so kind to assist??
