SOB i'm lazy!!
I know i know...the car has had the HKS SSQ on it for a long time and i've been way to lazy to get a MAFT or a recirculation kit for it, well i finally ordered the recirc kit from dsmparts.com, they seem to be the cheapest supplier i've found so far.
Anyway, after this i'm finally going to allow myself to start adding performance to it again. I found an SAFC2 on there for $269.
This is the kit i ordered- Linky (http://dsmparts.com/customer/product.php?productid=516&cat=9&page=1)

Nope. You need a credit card to sell items, not buy. As long as you have an account, you can buy. Just pay by money order/cashier's check, assuming you don't have Paypal.

DSMLink > SAFC2
by the time you add the price of a logger, cables, and a AFC, you're not that far from DSMlink. If you need an eprom, it's still worth it.

Thus is true, but, i live 10 minutes from a local DSM speedshop, so if i need any serious tuning done, i'll just take it to them. I'm also lazy like that...

but dsmlink is just that much more easily tuneable. peronally i'd go straight do dsmlink and not having to screw with it later on if you want to upgrade later. personal preference but i think it's worth it

I was thinkiing of going with the pocketlogger, safcII setup but with a 95 and the itch for speed, I feel like I'm cheating myself by not going with DSMLink. It's just so much better in every aspect. I'm salivating now just thinking about it...

or you can go get a pre-paid credit card, from rite-aid, or walgreens. and use it on paypal.

But what about the laptop you need for dsmlink. That's expensive if you dont have one.

I have a laptop...in fact i have that software you can download on it, and i was dickin around looking at it one day...i dont know i might i suppose, if not it's for good reasons, so dont be disappointed if i go with the SAFC.

I am confused about all this recirculation thing on the BOV. How exactly does it work and whats the point of it ? Greddy Type S already comes recirculated right ? Sorry for going off topic but I am just curious you know :).

but that's the point, you can't do any serious tuning with an AFC
tuning past 660's is impossible, and no control over timing, plus you need a logger.
brainless decision

The technology you need to run dsmlink is really old. Once again Im sure you could find a great deal on a laptop on ebay for cheeeeap.

I'm actually working on a in-car computer that runs completely off the car's power, It will be small enough for the glove box or under the seat, play DVD's, run DSMLink (of course), and have about 20 gigs for MP3's.
Once I get it the way I want it I will be marketing it to DSM'ers for price of parts plus a little for time and effort.
Just to keep in mind.

How much you think you're going to sell that for? That sounds a lot easier than lugging my laptop around with me everywhere

In your case, DSMLink is a bad idea.
What you really should do is trade ECU's with me and go with the SAFC-II / Pocketlogger combo. Much better idea. :icon16:

Fuck yeah man! I am going to do the same thing to my DSM (except I wasnt planning on selling them). My dad bought a bunch of early 90's computers and I took them all apart. I gained quite a bit of knowledge in how a computer works from just monkeying around and talking to my friend Derrick. I was planning buying separate parts (lots cheaper that way) and making my own custom case, but making it small enough to fit in a small spot. I've heard of people that put computers in the spare tire thing in the back, maybe that would be a good place to look into putting it.

You want it in a place where there's no static discharge, keep that in mind.

there are really only two difficult parts to my project. First, it's gotta withstand heat/cold, your average computer can't do this. I'm in texas, and 100+ is common. second, it's gotta run off of the cars power.
I got some computer engineering majors helping me out though ;)
The price depends really on the screen you want. i may just not even include one. Some guys will wany a tiny one, but the guys running DSMLink will need a higher quality screen to read the logs.

I was going to say the same thing about DSMlink, it runs on the oldest laptops you could find... Has to be windows 98 though.
The EVO has 2 din slots, the upper was supposed to have the radio, but I got an RS, and the lower has the crappy stock guages. I plan to build a car PC in a single din case and put it in the lower slot, and put a mechanical (cheap) slide out 7" screen in the upper din slot. The PCs you can run arent too bad either, up to about 1.5 ghz on the Via micro boards.

LMAO :grinno: . Yeah, kinda like me deciding to get a $6500 SBR race motor when all I really needed was a stock $1000 6-bolt engine from EBay. IMSUCHANASSSSSS. :banghead:

Hey, not to bring up an old thread for nothing, but....
I was on tuners, looking in the member galleries at pics lol, and this guy had in his mod list, a complete datalogger setup from a site called http://www.dsmloggers.com/ . They sell the palm, software, and everything else needed for only $160. Also, regarding crunchy's idea for the in-car computer, they have that too. http://www.dsmloggers.com/computer.html
What do you guys think?

I think it costs less cause it uses Palm N' Stein free software.

Actually I picked up Pocketlogger (Software + cable) for $125 and got a used Palm m105 off ebay for $18. I also needed a serial hotsync cable, which I purchased from ebay for $11. So I did the entire thing for about $155.

So, is there that much of a difference between pocketlogger and palm n stein?
spyderturbo007

I have never used Palm-n-Stein, so I can't comment about the GUI. I do know that Pocketlogger has an excellent forum in case you run into a problem. Also, most DSM'rs use Pocketlogger, so you have a larger number of people to help if you have a problem.
I have no complaints about the Pocketlogger program.
