I really like the Nissan 300zx and the Toyota MR2, but I don't know which one I should get. These are used cars by the way and the milage on the MR2 is 180,000km and the 300zx is 181,000km. Which is honestly better for drifing? and which would win in a drag race? I am a total newbie so...:P but no worries I will be the greatest driver there is because I will be getting my own RIDE soon !!! so give me an honest opinion guys on which car I should get. and which would be cheaper to supe up?

ive always liked the mr2s. they handle very well and are very reliabe even after mods. i dunno which is better for drifting but i bet the 300zx because its easier to control in a drift cuz its fr. its probly about a half sec faster or so in the quarter mile. mr2 looks better tho imo and being a manual already makes it a ton cooler. 240 will drift with the best of em but it feels a little underpowered to me. id go with the mr2 just cuz it gets good milage, reliable and will outhandle alot of other cars. im assuming neither the mr2 or the 300 are turbos. also thats kindof a high price for an mr2 unless its immaculately cared for. try negotiating down.

ooo boy
I FOUND SOMETHING LIE A DREAM!
1991 Toyota MR2 TURBO for $6500 Manual but the only thing that is wrong with it is that it says " Needs some tranmission work to make it a dream ride." if i buy this will it cost a lot of money to fix the transmission to make it real??? it has turrbo and its cheaper than the one above!

yeah I'd go for the '91 MR2T.

wow thats a crazy good deal on the mr2 turbo. even though it needs work its still hard to find em for less than 8k. Buy it on the condition that you own it for 24 hours and you can take it to your mechanic. He can tell you whether or not you can afford to fix it.

By the prices you listed for each car, I can see that you are new to the automotive world. Did you just yank those prices straight out of the KBB? Be a bargain hunter man :evillol:

To answer the initial question, I personally would go with a '94 MR2 Turbo, I think it's just a way cooler car than a 300zx, you also listed the 240 which is one of my all-time faves, but the MR2 is something you don't see as much, it's better looking imo, lighter, sportier. It doesn't have as much potential as the aftermarket ridden 300zx, but it makes up for it in feel and driveability. Probably more reliable to. The reason I would look for a '94 is because that is the year that Toyota reworked the suspension geometry to fix the infamous snap-oversteer of the '91's,'92's, and '93's, a minor setback considering you get a mid-engine sports car for like a 100,000th of the price of a Ferrari, ghini, NSX, etc. But it is VERY touchy at anything over 120 mph, so if you are intending to go that fast, you definatly want a '94 or newer. And NOOOOOO not even a '94 Turbo should set you back 6,500 if you spend enough time looking, you should be able to find one for under 4 g's. That's right :smokin:

ok i found a 1987 Toyota supra turbo mileage 190,000 for 1500 but the guy said come by take a look at it and tell me what u think. Over the pass few days i've been thinking and i think those other cars are just too much now and im a new driver so i dont want to crash anything. i was thinking a lot about the 240sx because its cheaper and it has 4 seats so support at least some of my friends. anyways i found some 240sx like 1990 and a 1991 and they are also 1500-1600 but the mileage is like 240,000 and like 230,000. should i go for one of the 240sx or the supra turbo that is 190,000?

headgasket on ma70 supra usually goes bad at early miles, you might wanna check that. cam towers also have a tendency to leak. ka24 from 240 on the other hand is bullet proof. that truck engine runs like a tank.

What is going on in this thread?!?!?

Where are you from, youre giving mileage in km and prices in $, so I just automaticallly assume US dollars.

No car from 1991 that needs trans work is a hell of a deal. You never wanna buy a car that needs trans work unless the car is 500 bucks or less.

If you actually are worried about crashing your first car, you probably dont wanna get a turbo, RWD car.

How did we go from a $10,000 300ZX to a $1500 Supra?

If you are that unsure about these types of cars, and you obviously havent researched a damn thing, maybe you should just get a 1999 Camry or something reliable, or actually do some research and find what you want.

yeah I'd go for the '91 MR2T.

You really dissapointed me on this one, your posts are normally much more insightful and the fact that you just kind of went along with these ignorant posts upsets me, Ive come to expect better from you lol, I know you know better.

In the second post, someone posted the 300ZX would be better for drifting, what did you base this on? I would think theyd be about equal but I'm not really a drift type person. Id give the nod to the MR2 though because it is manual.

P.S. Hey Blogger, for a noob, you're alright.
