Overdrive shifts hard

My 98 Avalon automatic transmission shifts into overdrive vary hard. Does anybody have any ideas?

Need more info. How many miles?
Maybe fluid is under/overfilled. I would change the fluid, and be sure to fill it to correct level.

Exactly, at what point (drive gear, rpm, mph) is it shifting at as well?

98 Avalon, 68,000 miles, fluid level is OK. Shifts hard at any RPM, I have been letting up on the gas just before it shifts into overdrive, so the effect isn't as bad. It's like shifting a manual transmission without the clutch. At higher RPM's it feels like someone bumped you from behind.
