I have a 97 taurus gl 3.0 140,000 miles, couple years ago I changed about 2 quarts of transmission fluid. after that the first drive at about 30 miles an hour speed, a high pitched noise like something spinning suddenly starts but only starting in fall cool weather until warmer spring. When I slow down to around 20 it stops. Doesnt do it at all during summer months. Doesnt do it everytime I stop and start either but alot of the times it does. It has no effect on performance of Trans. Could it be a trans sensor that spins? any input to this thread I thank you. :p

Are you sure it's a tranny whine and not the famous Ford power steering pump whine? If you're not sure try neutral while cruising on the highway and see if it follows RPM or speed.

I tryed the shift into neutral thing, and it does nothing to the sound, same as usual, I had a guy at a muffler shop that does other work but not trans work, drive it, he said it was "trans and that cost you 1500 bucks". any other ideas , afraid to take to trans shop you know there gonna say I need a rebuild. Was wondering if it could be a trans sensor spinning if any of them actually spin, I dont know if they do?
