So yea you all know that i have a 83 rx...im still having problems getting this thing running right...so i've to decided to turn it into a RPSFB for those of you that didnt get that...thats a SR powered RX7...yup...sounds crazy but thats what im going to do...im sick and tired of this Rotary crap already...to $$$ and to many people not in the know for me...SR motors are somewhat cheap, reliable, easy to maintain, and have hella aftermarket...so im doing the conversion...i have a customizing shop down the street that will be doing the engine and tranny craddle for me...i just need to come up with the engine and tranny...(and of course driveshaft, but thats easy) my RX7 already has LSD so im keeping that diff. i'll be gutting the RX7 and starting to get it ready for an SR soon...only thing the RX7 will have is power windows, and a stereo on the inside...well besides the stuff needed...driver and passenger seat...the rest will be gutted...anywho...im goingt o have fun with this...what do you think...? i know im :screwy:

I love the idea.....my friend Waldo put a VG30det in a FC.....was one bad ass machine....he completely built the motor up and was at about 850hp....Now that car dipped....good luck with ur swap....

I believe it was a 87...not quite sure....but he had that thing completely built up...Forged internals, 3 angle valvejob, port/polish, Built tranny, 1 piece driveshaft, GM 10 possie rearend....gutted interior...Tubular manifold, T66 turbo, runnin i think 35psi....Engine management system....that motor was good for 50psi he said...but he sold it before he even tried....he never took it to a track either....i heard the guy taht bought it from him ran a 9.8 in the quarter with it...but thats just waht we heard....but now we moved onto my project....my RB25det in my 240...gunna build that thing for like 800hp....thats our goal....

formula d yamamoto i think
also saw a ls1 V8 in an fc somewhere online

FC's are an amazing car to swap an engine into...u can put just about anything into them....

driftking777

yea i looked up the falken rx7 he has a 13b i believe...but yea rx's are very swappable cars...we'll see how things go...

i honestly think SR's are a perfect candidate for a engine swap with a FD. since everyone knows how tempermental a 13B-REW is. with a SR it will be almost as light as the 13B, sit almost as far back and will be infinitly more reliable.

however we're not talkin about a FD, we're talkin about a FB, so yeah that thing should be rocket since its so small.

yea it weighs only 2400lbs...and thats full interior, and options...cruise, ac, everything. so im thinking stripped it should be around 2200 or so...that with the 100lbs added weight of the SR motor...yea im thinking 12lbs boost, FMIC, and an exhaust i should be running 12's :)

I call BS.

T66 doesn't have enough juice to flow 850whp, and it will explode at 35 PSI of boost pressure. Most MkIV's only push them to about 25 - 28 PSI tops, due to the curvature of their maps.

800HP RB25?

Two words: Dyno queen.

The 12A and SR should weigh about the same.

Remember rotaries have iron housings.

You might run into hood fitment issues depending on how the mounts are built.

He was runnin a t66 turbo for awhile...he must have changed it...i dont talk to him anymore....cuz he showed me the dyno charts....

bout the Rb25 pushin 800....i know its gunna take tons of work...but itll give me something to do in my spare time....do u know anything bout the 2.8 liter stroker kit?? how much hp would that put me to???

slideways...

if your lookin for 800 hp dont even worry about how much a stroker will put you to
think of it as creating additional potential to make it strong.

Why don't you give yourself a more realistic goal of 500whp.

You'd be surprised how hard it is, and how much money it takes to make 500whp reliably.

Besides at 800whp you will be breaking drivetrains left and right. I highly doubt you can afford to build the motor much less upkeep it. You are destined to be disapointed if you even try for that.

Do you even realise how fast a 240SX is with even 400whp?

Well im guessin 11's...cuz im pushin 300 right now and i estimate like high 12's.....so at 400whp it should be 11's right?? and a 500hp 240 would do ??? 10's??? I just said a random high number the HP...im basically gunna do as many mods as i can and get it dynoed and see what im at....

i'll help you out here. mynismo was 438 or something and he hit 10s, but with an sr. 500 hp is more reasonable. 800? your car won't last more than a run or 2 unless you spend as much on the frame as you do on the engine.. not to mention the tires..

driftking777
10-13-2005, 12:59 AM
and yes i do mean the brown RX...im going to repaint it another color though...maybe a matching car as my 240...make SR sisters. I wouldnt do the stroker kit either...not really worth the $$. your looking at only 50hp gain unless fully ported..then maybe 100hp gain...but im lookin at doin a 250whp SR in my RX...just thinking how to do the exhaust now...and im in South Dakota...im not to far away...project may be done by late next summer...so some stuff on my 240 is going to have to wait (coilovers...maybe wheels :( ) unless someone wants to donate 2500 to the badass wheel fund...yea didnt think so...anywho...

Just custom crossmember/motor mounts.

Remember, the 240z originally had a 2.4L Inline 6. So sticking in a 4 cylinder is no problem room wise.

i think the biggest problem im going to have fitting the SR in the RX is the exhaust...RX exhaust is passenger side...SR is driver...im going to have to bend it some how to make it fit..hmmm

driftking777
10-13-2005, 02:48 PM
i just went out and did all the measurement on the engine bays. The engine bays themselves are almost identical in size...the 240 engine bay is about 3-4in longer, thus making fitment of a aftermarket radiator and fan easier...since the RX is that 3-4 in shorter i may have to push the rad support said 3-4 inches foward, no big deal becuase there is about 12inches of nothingness infront of the rad support, which will allow me also to put a nice greddy FMIC there...just need to make some custom brackets for it...im probably going to notch the fire was an 1-2 inches to allow a better 50/50 weight dist. and to allow me to no have to make huge changes on the rad support...still need to measure the distances on the trans, to the actual shifter holes ect...will do that later when i get them both in the air...

why not just put all this money and effort and great vision into your 240.....you've already got all the stuff done to it that your going to do to the rx. I guess you want a drift and a drag car??? Not saying dont do it, just wondering why do it.

lilskyline240
10-13-2005, 08:09 PM
I say, instead of doin an SR swap...doin somethign more drastic...maybe a VG30...or a 2jz...or just put a 20b in there...

a 20b is 3 rotor, twin turbo...like 280hp and 270ft/lbs of torque

driftking777

well a SR swap is more in a my budget range...just want something to get the crappy 12a out of there...and as it is...even though SR are "overdone" there still not "overdone" in the RX community....and yes im looking for a track/ weekend car...i would put all my money into my 240 but i would like to get the RX running. my 240 is my daily driver so the wide wheels and coilovers can wait for now...

not 100% sure yet...motor wont be in until around jan or feb...so...who knows where im getting it from...i'll be preping the car (stripping it fully down to chassis) and cleaning and painting it all up during the winter...then when it starts to kinda warm up i'll dump the motor in. gives me time to get everything where i need it...i dont want to rush something like this...first full one off project car...ya know
