ive been experiencing a problem with my 97 grand prix for a little while now, my check engine light seems to go on and off many times a day, and then when i turn on my a/c or heat, my intake starts sucking in air like theres no tommorow, my car shakes a bit and my rpm's go up and down. Anyone heard of this or know how i can fix this problem? thanks

Get it scanned post back the codes, eliminates guess work

I agree that if you have a persistent SES/CEL light get it scanned.
What makes you believe that you have a mass airflow problem?
Any component on the throttle body such as the MAF sensor, idle air controller (IAC), throttle position sensor (TPS) or vacuum leak can give you those symptoms. For example: A defective, shorted or open IAC will cause the rpms to be very erratic. However, normally the idle goes to over 1000 rpms or more and stays there. Plus it will make your engine sound like it has a vacuum leak and it will make weird noises. The positive crankcase vent. system goes to pot as a result.

Auto Zone and Advance auto now scan for free, so you won't have to pay $40-$60 at a shop.

scanned it and came up with MAF or VAF circuit low input, p0102

To troubleshoot it further, all you have to do is disconnect it. Undo the electrical connector to the MAF. Test the car and see what it does. With no MAF input detected, the PCM will use programmed air flow values. If driveability returns get a new MAF sensor. With MAF undone, the initial idle will be a little erratic until the engine warms up but it should be driveable. Good luck!
