Interior like a swimming pool

My son has a 1998 TDi SE the car has been ok apart from filling with water every time it rains, we have just had the door adjusted so we know thats ok, all the rubbers are fine, we've had the car on ramps and cannot see anything wrong underneath, the water is worse at the back of the drivers seat/ drivers side, we cannot see where its coming in, it's been raining for the last 12 hours and its about an inch deep at the back, the car has a sunroof but with no signs of damp around it. help please

try installing a bilge pump, just kidding. sometimes the drain tubes for the sun roof cartrige will become clogged (generalised statement for cars with a sun roof). try chasing them with something that is flexible and does not have a sharp end. i know that you said that there is not a damp area around the sun roof, but the sun roof cartridge is larger than most people think. i'd be critical of the doors since you said you just had work done in that area, was there a leak before the work was done? i'm not implying anything about the person who adjusted the doors, but sometimes the easiest way to find a problem is to look at what was done last, especially when there is a connection between the existing problem and the last change that was made. you might want to cover the car untill the leakage issue is resolved.

Where abouts are the drainage holes, Ive just had a quick look and cannot see them

better yet was there water pooling in the sun roof cartridge when you looked at it? i'm assuming that you looked shortly after it quit raining. the drains are usually near the corners of the sun roof cartridge. if it rains hard again try sitting in the car and looking for leaks, that is how i have been able to locate mine in the past.

I had the same problem. I only realised what the problem was when I went through a car wash and the water gushed in via the holes for the predals in the footwell. It's a simple problem that you may not beleive.

Over time the o/s grill beneath the windscreen had filled with leaves and other cr@p. When this got wet it turned into a thick sludge, blocking the water channels to the wheel arch.

To test that this is the problem then pour loads of water into teh grill (or over the windscreen ) - use a few litres or even better a hosepipe. If the footell floods then this is your problem. If not then you may as well ignore this message.

If it does flood then lift the grill and clear out the sludge, then pour water through the grill to check that the problem is solved.
