Going in for surgery

I tore my anterior cruciate ligament in my right knee playing soccer a few months ago and am having reconstructive surgery today. Here's some info on the operation (http://www.orthoassociates.com/acltech.htm). Wish me luck :)

I'm not nervous about the operation itself but i am feeling quite apprehensive about the recovery as 1) it's hard damn work, and 2) it could take a much longer time than doctors say. A friend of mine had the same op and couldnt walk for months. If i can't walk - or worse yet, drive - i'll be pretty f***ing pissed to say the least! Anyway, i won't be around for a few days, but expect a lot of whoring when i get back as i wont be in any shape to do much else :icon16:

"Soccer injury.....surrrreeee......Come on! we all know you ripped that ligament while having freaky monkey sex with a dozen or so supermodels. I repeat: freaky monkey sex

On a serious note I hope you'll recover fast.:)

On an evn more serious note, according to my extensive medical knowledge, this type or of injury must be treated with large amounts of beer. So better hit that pub pronto!!!!

See you in a few days.

My sister had an ACL reconstruction, she said that while rehab was tough, the repair made her knee as good as new. (She also said that the site where they took the replacement tendon hurt more than the repaired knee)

Here's for you having a competent and able doctor! See you in a bit...

Looks like a long and painful procedure... best of luck to you, and hope for a quick recovery!

Out of curiousity, what exactly happened during the soccer game?

if it's chealsea & westmister hospital in london you got nothing to worry about, i was there for a thumb operation an it was all good (electric saw vs. thumb)

Eh, doesn't sound very fun. Think of all the extra computer seat time you'll get..

As if any of us need it, haha. How long did doctors say it will take to recover?

torn ligaments can take months to recover, pedends what an where it is. but chances of playing sport, with that recovering, in the next few months is slim to none. it'll be a while before he can do those kinda activites again.

Oh, so it's only been TWO DAYS and you've already found someone else? Didn't our time together mean ANYTHING?

In all seriousness, best of luck on the surgery + recovery

I'm back!! :D

The operation was carried out on Wednesday afternoon and went well. When i came to that night, my knee was very swollen and i couldnt feel most of the area around it; i couldnt move it and could only wiggle my toes and rotate my foot.. It wasn't that painful, and getting to sleep was no problem as they gave me a cocktail of painkillers including morphine. The next morning, they took the bandages off and changed the dressings over the wound. The physio came by and got me to walk around on crutches. My arms were taking most of my weight as she did not want me to stress my knee, but it was nice to be up on my feet so early after the operation :)

By the afternoon, and very much to my surprise, i was putting most of my weight on my legs, using the crutches only for extra stability. I did a bunch of exercises and was able to bend my knee by about 75 degrees. The physio and surgeon were happy with the progress. The aim is to be able to achieve a 90 degree bend on the operated knee, and since i was able to do that this morning, and the swelling had reduced, they discharged me already :D :D

My friend, who had the same op, was bedridden for 5 days  .... Sissy

I had a nice hospital room all to myself with cable tv and an ensuite bathroom. A bit of a shame to have left really. I won't be getting that kind of room service at home ;)

Now to the important stuff... the nurses.... im sad to say they were all - with no exception - absolutely vile... I was so disappointed :(

HOWEVER..... and this is still making me chuckle... my (new) gf visited me yesterday after finishing work and... erm... we ended up going at it for a good 20 minutes in the room... LOL! It feels good being back in action already :lol2:

I'll be walking around on crutches for the next week or so, hopefully it won't be long before i can start walking around normally, and most importantly, driving ;)

Thanks for all the messages guys, i have a few pics on my phone which i'll upload later - of my knee that is, not the freaky sex :P

Out of curiousity, what exactly happened during the soccer game?
I was making a fool of this guy, standing on on my left foot and dragging the ball back with my right sole in circles, so the guy was actually running around me chasing the ball. I finished having fun with him and flicked the ball to a teammate with my right foot, and as i put it down (my right leg is in a twisted position now), a guy on the other team (obviously annoyed that i was making a fool of his teammate) came lunging in on my leg, putting substantial force through my twisted knee. The ligament snapped.

Oh, so it's only been TWO DAYS and you've already found someone else? Didn't our time together mean ANYTHING?
No.

Well Jay, I am going in for foot surgery, Hallux Rigidus (http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/fact/thr_report.cfm?Thread_ID=352&topcategory=Foot)to be more precise. So at my age (42) and with the active lifestyle I have (almost none, just sitting and playing with AF all day) They are just only going to do a Cheilectomy, but if they find its really bad after opening me up they might have to do a joint replacement. So I can be out for 3 weeks, (Yeah, no work) or maybe even longer (if a joint replacement is done).
This is what it should be..

This is when its starts being bad..
http://www.santafemods.com/images/Personal/Rigidus02.jpg
and this is how it is now with me...
http://www.santafemods.com/images/Personal/Rigidus03.jpg
Now, the thing that bothers me is not the surgery or the recovery, but if I have this at this early stage, what the hell lies ahead when I get older. Yikes.
This site (http://footandankle.mdmercy.com/conditions/bigtoe/hallux_rigidus.html) shows you the surgery pics of how they are going to do it. Be warned, its graphic. Not for the blood squemish.
All I can say is this,...
Thanks mom, thanks dad. dog gone "pass me crap down thru their genes" bastards. :banghead:

Anyway, again, glad it went well for you. as for this...'the hell kinda phone do you have to take such big pics ? Yeah, what phone do you have. its quite clear.

Sony Ericssson W800i. 2MP camera. That pic wasnt even taken on 'fine' resolution. There are some other nice pictures on there which you won't be seeing :iceslolan

shame about the nurses, chelsea an westminster......woooo......damn they were all fit an goo lookers. but "back in action" is hospital ? impressive.
Yeah, it was a shame about the nurses... thats why the gf had to be summoned. Doctors ands nurses were coming in and out of the room at such a rate that im astonished no one walked in while we were at it.. unless they heard through the door

glad to hear you're ok now. i trust you'll claim revenge on the bastard that buggered your leg.

My surgery is december 19th. I'am going in for a nose job for two reasons. One is that I have mild cancerious skin cells, which is due to my next reason - my nose is a decent length so why not hit two birds with one stone & alleviate the risk of ever getting it again by alot.
