I have a 1993 Ford Escort LX Hb w/ the 1.9L I-4. I have read through many threads looking for ways to improve my car's performance and fuel economy. I read that you can reduce some weight in the car by removing "tar sheets". What are tar sheets, what is their purpose and how do I go about removing them? What are the pros and cons of doing this? How much do the tar sheets actually weigh? Thank you for any information you can supply to me.

Tar sheets are sheets of paper impregnated with tar that they use to seal certain areas of the body. They are heavy but they also serve a purpose. They help to block noise and they seal the areas in the body where water can get in. You can remove them but you may experience some noise problems and possibly some leaks.
